Yes it could unlock 10B dollars worth of investment in huge dams all over the country. kenyans are willing to pay for the water - like they do for electricity.

The pros and cons of trading water,
Pros
ASAL regions will get water security and be saved during times of drought and famine but at a price, this will transform all those areas drastically
Cons
Expensive and government must chip in, in water resource counties they probably wont feel anything albeit might feel short changed due to them being catchment area.

Kickback for what? If you have money - you build a dam- and sign a purchase agreement with Githunguri water supply company for 20yrs - with treasury gurantees - that you dam will supply water at say a dollar per metric cubic ( 1000 litres).

Nairobi alone ->Nairobi Water demand is 790,000 m3 against the installed production capacity of 525,000 m3/day, leakages due to old infrastructure and pipe interference, illegal connections, vandalism and catchment degradation among others.

Therefore there is 275,000K dollar of money unsatisfied water demand per day. That 100M dollars per annum and increasing annually as more people come to the city.  That is maybe 2B dollars in 10yrs - in 30yrs - you're talking 5-10B dollars.

So private water companies - from China or France - can come - buy land - build their own private Ndakaini - and sell water to Nairobi Water. Water rationing will end. Water bowser, jerricans and such illegal and unhyegnic business will die..and so will be buying storage tanks that cost a lot of money.

Repeat the same agreement with 47 counties....invest 200M dollars in each in dam..let county water companies sign long term purchase agreement. Then do the same for Galanas - private dams - given freeland to till or let them sale water for irrigation to farmers.

That already 10B dollars of investment - with lots of jobs during construction - cement consumption - name it.

The same thing happened in IPPS for power. There have been 10B dollars private investment. Zero loans building dams from Gok.

So Ruto will tripple the economy - without any debt - just pure brains

1) Just like Nairobi expressway or IPPs,Ruto will use proxies to invest in those projects,He will be getting his cut from those projects through profits from being a shareholder.

2) The biggest victims will be Kenya,The price of water will be OVERPRICED and there will be inflated supply. The same thing is happening in Kplc tokens.

3) Who will finance these projects? The financier will be maybe an american or european bank..the loan will be dollar denominated..that means when paying these loans lots of foreign exchange will come into play which means more pain to the tax payer through bills.

Key point..The project is good but the beneficiary is Ruto who will have huge interest in ownership and financing of the project and victim Willl be ordinary Kenyan who will be suffer from high prices of utilities and taxation.

Let Ruto benefit - if he can reduce people buying water - right now 20 litre jerrican cost 10-20bob. That very expensive. Millions of Kenya buy water - this money they can use elsewhere - if they purchase 1000 litres for 100shs...instead of now 1000 litres for 500shs - if 50 jerricans times 10-20shs is 500-1000sh. It cannot be more expensive than that.

The PPPs project will be all over the country and will benefit many people - local and international - but most important it will reduce water scarcity, water diseases and improve the economy.

That is the great goods - will Ruto become rich - more than obvious - because he will also invest in this - and so you should.

Key point..The project is good but the beneficiary is Ruto who will have huge interest in ownership and financing of the project and victim Willl be ordinary Kenyan who will be suffer from high prices of utilities and taxation.

Why are you stating the obvious?

Same people who were defending Uhuru's manipulation of the country's economy to benefit his family will be out there shouting the rest of us down ati it is a free country and everyone can invest his money. The case of conflict of interests will be ignored.

It is a shame Mwafrika cannot have running water. Water rationing sounds normal! One day of water per week!

All Kenya needs to do is have researchers research how the USA does things and try to replicate/customize it for Kenya. Water in the USA never runs out and is very cheap. You can water your grass for 30 days straight and pay $30 extra on your monthly bill. Everyone should have a monthly water bill in Turkana/desert or the leafy suburbs of Nairobi. That is doable when counties and private companies work together.
When you use a tested process or prototype, trial, era, and associated costs go out the window. The private sector can do everything when government builds and maintain infrustrures
The future belongs to those who have a quarter of the character and integrity of RV Heavy Hitter!

That's not true. Drinking water, water supply etc. in Australia is government owned and controlled/billed by the govt. A good friend of mine works for the water ministry.

What can be traded are water assets so like land that comes with water. If that's what Ruto is privatising it's already owned by the colonialists so I'm not sure what he means by privatising.

If he's finding a way to steal the 200mil for the drought sourced from the UN by privatising govt assets like drinking water, for instance, by creating shelf companies and dish out IOU to those who funded his election warchest, then he's on the right track

Basically robbing his own people of a basic necessity to amass wealth for himself and those who supported him. Problem with non-dynasty folks is that they can stoop that low because they know how to strike that low.

Where is the policy behind this??
Dams or personal wells?
Who makes the rules - county or Central govt?
Will it be as chaotic and the matatu industry?
Any minimum standards?
These should have been worked out before announcing such a policy.

Alice Wahome will tell us.
Note Martha in 2002 privatize water supply
The water generation is the problems - the dams - the water supply companies dont have finance to build huge dams.
So it will be similar IPP like power producers.
The agreement I guess will be btw Water Companies owned by Counties & Independent Water Producers/Collectors - with Treasury guarantee's.
These will be Purchasing Agreement - starting prize and period - power purchase are 20-30yrs.

The policy is PPP  - that already exist. Private Public Partnership. Public - water companies owned by counties - private individuals will invest in dams - and Treasury will gurantee these deals for a long term.

Obviously the details will come from Water Regulators - and Treasury - and the prizing & terms negotiated.

As long as the system is owned by all am ok with that. The idea of the country being owned by 10% is DISGUSTING.
Riches are passed on from one generation to another and the poor continue to pass nothing one generation to another.
