Strange...started during COVID-19 days...now women are taking hard stuff
Not really, drinking hard stuff starts in campus for most people when budget is tight. In the prior years once people started earning they shifted to beers for men and wines / ciders for ladies. Then marketers for imported brands started doing their thing, the first very successfull campaign I remember was by guys distributing Jameson. They hit pay dirt by targetimg impressionable young adults, they convinced this demographic hard liqour is still cool, heck they ensured it was priced more expensively than vodka / gin to give it "class". This was around 2010 - 2014.
After this every brand manager and their grandma studied the play book and went out hunting.
Gin is a late comer to the party, but because its cheaper than whysky, its sales have now overtaken whysky.
Since then, sales volumes for spirits has grown much faster than that of beers / ciders. Even EABL thru UDV has increased their product range to cover the lowest end of the market to the highest.
Covid 19 just exposed what was all ready happening, but now since bars were closed, people were drinking hard liquor at home or in bush parties
