That was awesome. At 17, he'll be dominating for few years to come. In this spot, once you hit 30, the knees starts to do their thing.

A sign of the prophesy. After Baba the 5th takes the reins, even the track is saying we won't be hearing much of them after Aug 9th.

Kipsigis are not good athletes, Nandis, and Keiyos dominate track.

Bringing politics to sport? Starting to agree with what the other guy said (70-year-old what...). The track is a Kalenjin thing going back to the early 50s. Even in a decade, winning the last 29 NY marathons, Chicago, Boston, London, and Olympics cannot be erased easily. Expect RV to dominate the spot for another 200 Years and more, but not meant to take Wanyonyi's impressive win. He is a Kenyan and has made us proud. Hope he moves to Eldoret and Iten to train with champions on discipline, family, faith, country, and passionate pursuit to dominate the globe in track, marathon, and beyond!

Kipsigis, Keiyos, sabaot, Marakwet, and Nandi equally are the same. Legend Faith Kipyego, Mercy Cherono are indomitable Kipsigis girls!

Not true. Kipsigis are too heavy for track  :D You and Pundit for example have Gema wives your offspring won't be fleet footed.

You answer yourself, If you investigate further most probably you will find he has Kalenjin roots .
The more people intermarry the better for Kenya.
Legendary John Ngugi and Samuel Wanjiru were GEMA but no one disputed any blood ties with Kalenjin.

Precisely. Talent is part of it - discipline, endurance and humility is also part of it. To train for long hours for many months waking up early morning to punishing schedule is not for sissies.

I just down to train camps locations - otherwise genetic wise - body build wise - I dont think there is that much difference. There are many top kipsigis runners - including Tim cheruiyot of 1500m now.My immediate neigberhour is 3000m steeplechase. In my village alone - I can name many great althetes.

There are many top kipsigis runners - including Tim cheruiyot of 1500m now.My immediate neigberhour is 3000m steeplechase world champion Beatrice Chepkoech. In my village alone - I can name many great althetes. I grew up with Chirchirs brothers. William Sigei who broke many record use to stay next door neighbors.

There are just too many gifted kalenjin runners to be counted. If you stick training camps everywhere in kalenjin land- you'd had a problem picking the best...coz almost every village is capable of producing great althetes.

But I agree - most of it is down to body build - heavy legs like mzungu or baluhya - makes long distance running hard - but make great footballers.

I think it has shifted.  Way back in Kipchoge Keino-Henry Rono to kina Julius Korir days it was Nandis.  Nandi County was there before Elgeyo Marakwet (with heavy emphasis on Marakwet) woke up  and took over circa the 90s.  These days we are seeing a sort of awakening on the Ugandan branches of Kalenjin.  I suspect economic factors and exposure at play.

Even the build of Kikuyu athletes from Nyahururu is typical Kalenjin- Wakiihuri, Wanjiru

It mostly down to thin legs- no fat - in calves, ankles and thighs - make good althetes when running is a factor - make terrible stamina althetes like footballers.

It's down body-mass-to-heart index.  The human heart can only reach  a certain size.  You get more out of it when it's big relative to body mass(especially muscles).  Your body has a better oxygen/CO2 dynamic for each yard you move when it's small.  It's a bit like gas mileage in a vehicle.  To move further, you either increase the engine capacity or reduce the size of the car.  That's why anybody can train and increase their heart capacity.  But ony up to the point imposed by natural limits more specifically as body size.

The guys with bigger bodies/muscles tend to burn up their oxygen reserves much quicker, but they also put in "more work" in that short interval.  Their bodies are optimized for quick bursts of speed and frequent recovery periods.

Yes, 800 is the borderline sprinting territory where the extra muscle comes in handy. On the age matters, I think they are highly scrutinized, and I think very few get away with it (Peris Jepchirchir-Interview). Training is backbreaking, especially in the face area, so most of them look 2-4 years older than the stated age. Kipchoge looks almost 10 years older than his age because of zero fats on his face! On Rudisha, I think when his wife busted that knee during an argument shaved his reign by almost two years because he peaked way early!
