They are right. Inclusive growth will only come from more devolution. Regional disparities (esp btw Northern kenya ASAL) and rest of kenya is shocking. Poverty in Turkana,Mandera and such counties is nearly 95%; while in some places like Nairobi and most of Central; it mere 20-30%. The same with education, health, food security, access to basic infrastructure name any indicator.

Gov should see devolution as god sent to deal with shocking poverty in counties in Upper rift[Turkana,West Pokot,Baringo,Samburu,Laikipia],Upper eastern[Marsabit,Isiolo,Tharaka Nithi],NEP[Wajir,Mandera,Garissa],Ukambani[Kitui,Makueni] and part of Coast[Kwale,Kilifi,Tana River,Lamu]...then second tier western[Busia],Nyanza[Siaya].

Those are already 20 counties....where poverty, food insecurity and underdevelopment is serious.

Without those regions; kenya would be a middle class nation;vision 2030 achieved; But the moment you throw in figures for turkana, mandera, west pokot,marsabit,baringo,kitui,makueni,etc.....it drag the national average several notches down..in any indicator.

So to make kenya a better country...just improve these really backward parts of kenya.

No wonder there is massive cattle rustling in these neglected areas. It the only source of livelyhood.

Turkana should be out of the woods soon. What with all this oil wealth, a massive water well etc. It can actually be the bread basket of Kenya in short order if all the water resources are harnessed.

Maybe. But with illiteracy;90% of turkana people have never been to school; cannot read or write; that will be uphill tasks; But at least they can become food secure.

They can at least blend with other Kenyans to learn a few things. Meanwhile the county government should invest in a massive education drive at least upto primary level so that the masses learn to read, write and communicate. This will take a few years, but worthy.

That is good to hear, at least they will help to transform the region. The private sector is the real driver of development in this region of the world. Forget gava, and let it focus on policy issues.

Kenya adopted the American-uk system does not work well with the majority of Kenyans who aren't able able to compete with the thieving filthy rich and the foreign investors who are worshiped by the government at the expense of the locals.

The government should have barred foreigners from some sectors and mainly let them mainly into manufacturing which has the potential to create jobs. Just look at the banking kiosks all over, they do nothing but make profit by counting and storing money.

Don't blame the private sector..both local or foreign..the reality is gov [both county and national] annually collects 25% of GDP in taxes and rates plus borrow another 5-10% from local and external banks and get foreign aid and grants worth 10%...gov annually has nearly 50% of GDP...that they are suppose to spend in mitigating poverty and dealing with inequalities of capitalism...but they do a poor job...gov operatives massive steal that money...instead of ensuring public infrastructure and welfare are well funded.

Blame the gov. Blame our corrupt gov. Blame our thieving gov.

sending money to counties is not a good thing. Sending money to pay for projects initiated by the county is a good thing. Counties have been using money to buy more expensive cars to drive on non existent roads.

I concur with you.
