My mother is going to West Africa to volunteer
« on: October 26, 2014, 04:32:46 AM »
She's enraged Oz banned healthcare workers from going, and after receiving a volunteer request by email from a health association, she's adamant, we can not ignore the plight of those in Africa. So she's decided she's going over there to volunteer for a few months. I've tried to convince her otherwise and she was shocked that me of all people, very few people in the world who knew the health system intimately in those parts and apparently the brains to solve this crisis, would not support her decision. They need our help veri, you can't ignore this.

How did it get to this.

Where would Negro be without bazungu?

Veritas, am touched. What's her motivation?

I have to say I'm not equally touched. This is my mother. She's just dreamy on altruism and riding with the media.

She won't listen to me. I threatened to come with her and she said of course you will.

What choice do I have?

My life is a constant rollercoaster, one crisis after another.

The solution to all this might just be me popping out a bub and giving it to her. If I got pregnant there's no way she'd go. I know her. I'd be someone in need of care as opposed to Joan of Arc in her eyes if I had a bun in the oven.
