No public school should be a boarding - private yes
« on: November 12, 2021, 10:21:08 AM »
"They are an unnecessary mess. Raising kids in prisons is not preparing them for anything. At what point in life is it practical to learn how to stay with one gender for months at a time? This is why these kids know books and nothing else in life. Shut down boarding schools, turn dorms into classes, and challenge that no school in Kenya should have an advantage over another," he said.

MAKE ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS EQUAL.

If someone wants a little extra - let them go to private schools.

I concur. Boarding school are outdated. All lower education should be day (circa 8.30am-4pm max class hours)

However, boarding could be reserved for endangered communities  (i.e. Pokot, Njemps, Maasai, Turkana, Okiek etc), but with proper funding to bridge to gap of marginalization?

I saw buruburu girls prison high school... no fire/emergency escape routes :(

Why are they endangered. How can you protect kids and leave their parents. We need to fix peace in those areas. Kids and their parents should not be seperated.

This is very dangerous. I agree with Pundit second time in less than 1 month? Something very wrong.

We have been saying this for years. Most of education task forces or commissions have made this recommendation. One thing that needs to happen is to strengthen public education make it the first choice for most not the last choice. That buruburu school looked worse than a prison. I am sure we have better run prison facilities. The govt is the only one that can focus on dismantling boarding schools. Kids should be with parents till they are of age of 18.

None of leaders want to talk about it - neither raila or ruto.
Public boarding...disband...let teachers..teach kids near their home.
The same with police officers....let deploy police officers near their home.
This will solve housing crisis...for students, teachers and police.
This will also lessen financial burden in transport allowance or expense working far from home.
This will also allow parents to stay with their kids and do parenting.
Local teachers will also work for local good.

Only headmasters and OCS - senior officials should be non-local.

Those who really must have boarding facilities - should take their kids to private boarding.

We can then focus on universities...where there is a shortfall of 300,000 hostels.

Problem with policing and teaching is , regions provide these in unequal proportions

Sirkal should simulate this by polling them asking them to pick preferred work stations. Results would be ugly

Moi university sticks out bad. Who will want to go there I wonder.
