Which sectors can you really control?
Primary - agriculture - even with border closure - kenya vegies and flowers were flown.
Secondary - industries - maybe? You can get out WTO but everyone is joining some free trade area - Africa just unleashed the biggest/EUs/name them - unlike previously - you can go amazon or ebay or alibaba - buy any product from anywhere - and it get shipped to you - taxes and all that.
Tertiary -services - cannot be boxed- many of them are becoming digital
The thing you need to understand is that gov can stop people across border from talking;
Once we talk; we can do business, marry, visit each other, name it.
Social media/internet continues to make the world very tiny - and make a joke of gov efforts to enforce physical border.
As for internet - VPN and such - make a big joke of any attempt to control internet.
The world just breezed through COVID pandemics like nothing happened thanks to internet.People worked from home, court cases were heard online, people made payment online or through mobile, ordered food/shopping/beer online, went to school online including universities abroad, got entertained online, attended events online, basically apart from few critical services like hospitals, life continued almost as always.
Globalization cannot be bottled. It's new world.
Ironically the more connected the world has become the more fragmented and polarized.
The current hyperconnected world is transitory, normal order will return.
