Look like Laikipia ranchers days are gone
« on: August 30, 2021, 08:00:53 PM »
Samburu and Pokot cattle rustlers have made it their new playground. Stealing cows remain very lucrative. Stealing 1000 cows is almost stealing a half a million to a million dollars.
Look like Marakwet having given up cattle keeping - and concentrated on horticulture - Pokot have left them  - and I bet tugens have also given up on cattle - and gone to sheeps and goats.

Turkanas have basically urbanized - and live in heavily fortified towns. I think Samburus too have urbanized.

Pokot cattle rustlers remain untamed - British failed, Jomo failed, Moi failed, Kibaki failed, Uhuru failed -all of them have send everything including KDF- zero success- only option is to take them to school - and for border communities to abandon cattle keeping.

Another option is to create a buffer - like British did with Kipsigis - Gusii - they created 10 mile buffer all around kipisigs border - and settled on it  - and to stop kipsigis cattle rustlers.

Gov should acquire land around pokot - 10 mile strip all around pokot land - and make it training grounds for British Army or even give it to US army to practise before going to Afgan.

That could work wonders; But lazima iwe free liquor; otherwise they will need to go steal cattle; to come finance their booze. The pokot savages need to be civilized. Christianity and educations in the long term; in the short term; just dump cattle keeping; and do sheeps or goats; Cattle are ideal because they can run for long distance; Sheaps and goats cannot survive a long trek.

These savages use to murder Marakwet until they decided to plant mangoes and bananas instead. The pokots stopped visiting them and massacring whole villages.

Before arrival of British - the Nandis use to make Pokot sing - they would massacre keiyos, sabaots - they only treated kipsigis as cousin and allies - and part of tugen -  ravine - the rest it didn't matter - all that mattered was the cattle.

After the peace deal with British - many Nandi unable to accept the peace terms - left  Nandi - many went to West Pokot, others to Luhya, Uganda and a few left for Tanzania - I there is whole division in Tanzania with Nandis - a few entered Kipsigis.

What about messing them up with cheap liquor?

I think I have read and heard from Nandis how they use to make them sing. Pokot territory came down to Tranzoia. The pokots in Suguta valley are the ultimate savages - I think Mzungu found them living in trees almost like monkeys - they never constructed houses. So the highland pokots are okay like other kalenjin - the savages are those living in dry lowland places towards turkana, baringo, samburu and laikipia border..those are savages. They rarely have any permanent housing - just moving around - living under trees or caves - and eating even snakes.

Pokots have never changed much since time immemorial, but Lonyangapuo is solely turning the tide with education and civilization-bringing initiatives in West Pokot.

What about messing them up with cheap liquor?

What do they do with stolen cattle?

Sell it of course

And what do they do with the proceeds?

I am not aware of a thriving cattle market in West Pokot.
I am not aware of someone from Dagoretti going to West Pokot to pick stolen cattle.

Typically stolen cattle are used to re-stock - after drought and diseases decimate their old stock - a vicious cycle of poverty.

I think a small percentage end up in markets....

What do they do with stolen cattle?

Sell it of course

And what do they do with the proceeds?

So it's not about cash

I know a thug who used to hire Fielder. He'd drive to Rumuruti and harvest about 30 heads of goats, and bring them back to Kiamaiko.

Another alternative would be unleashing tsetse flies down there. Decimate all stock, drive a few into extinction while others innovate. But there's so little they can do under the hostile weather and terrain

You really have genocidal thinking.
It actually simple - civilize these people
Invest in west pokot - build infrastructure like roads, schools, churches.
Improve their livestock - send vets and drill boreholes.
Sending the police to people eating cobra is waste of time - they will never subdue pokot
Send KDF to go drill boreholes - enough watering points - and build cattle dips - give them free vet medicine - and in few years their cattle will survive - and they will stop risky cattle rustling trade - and focus on other things.
Pokots is bigger phenomena as desertification intensifies in Africa sahara - it affecting countries from senegal all the way to Lamu - as pastoralist - move from sahara into green areas - and inevitably conflict occurs.
The lapset project should be seen as long term solution to dealing with northern kenya - it may not be economical - but we need those roads - to open up these areas for civilization - and move savages from cattle - to new economic activities - like minning, tourism and such - irrigation farming.

It's more climate change - as samburus and pokot - move south - looking for pasture and water. This is happening everywhere...Fulanis have moved all the way to Central Africa and congo.

Which politician will dare incite against British ranchers? Maybe local politician

Politician incitement is a bogus often repeated claim in Kenya. it is more comforting blaming someone with a face I guess than faceless complex processes that are hard to grapple with such desertification, climate change, unsustainable population growth, water mismanagement, etc

Fulanis are a curse on West Africa, ten times worse than wariahes , there is something obnoxious about the mix of Islam and Nomadic pastoralism.
