And why do we need to be old? Just being well read. Son of Woman was a good one - along My Life in Crime and all the wonderful litany of Kenya and African writers.

Thanks for posting that cover photo!

Interestingly, that's not the cover I recall. If my memory is correct, the book I read as a boy had a different cover. It was a face with a tongue sticking out like a tail.
