Bungoma county assembly has reportedly spent Sh100 million in payment for hotels in Kisumu for three months.
The money was used to pay for committee meetings in Kisumu.
A source yesterday told the Star that the MCAs' expenditure may cripple other activities in the assembly.
The Star found out that the MCAs have been arm-twisting the clerk of the assembly John Mosongo and speaker John Makali, threatening to sack them if they do not agree to their terms to shift committee sittings to Kisumu.
This comes in the wake of protests by lobby groups over the assembly’s expenditure.
The Jukwa la Katiba lobby group in letter to the county assembly clerk have demanded to have the entire expenditure in hotels made public.
Speaking to the Star yesterday, the executive director of the group Philip Wanyonyi accused Mosongo of failing to make the information public as provided in law.
“We intend to go to court to force the clerk to give us information. The Bungoma county assembly’s case is a typical case of corruption,” he said.
Wanyonyi said MCAs who have opted to shift their committee meetings to Kisumu because of the luxurious lifestyle have been losing their iPads purchased by the assembly in entertainment joints, and then demand for new ones.
“We are also demanding to know how much is being spent on the purchase of iPads,” he said.
The Star has established that almost 20 MCAs have lost their iPads and laptops, purchased by the assembly, in Kisumu entartaiment joints.
Last week, Ndalu MCA Ben Namaswa was reported in the media as having been drugged and robbed of his car keys, iPad and laptop.

Kafana spends his time chasing kamwana around rather than address or even acknowledge burning issues in the county. If Alfie vuvuzela is on one end of the performance spectrum. They will end up performing worse under devolution than before. Yet, they must be permitted to make their bed and lay on it.
