Magufuli expected to win by 90% sending opposition to political oblivion and punching career ending strike. The opposition ran disinformation campaign disapproving everything the ruling party achieved in past five years, while portraying an image of being supported by European.
Opposition at some point wrote letters to western donors to pause aid (like moi 90s) as political move to stymie government development agenda. And they keep churning out anti government articles through Bloomberg and economist.
Grass roots have shown chadema wide door out of mainstream politics for the near future and tz become defacto one party state.
Meanwhile opposition keep dramatizing election rigging by displaying and burning fake poll papers to seek sympathy on internet streets while appeasing to its mostly internet support base !

Magufuli is a populist in the vein of Trump. You can't support one populist and demonize another. Be consistent.

Well he has explicitly stated he won't leave if he loses so he is much worse than Magufooli in that respect. He would love to jail his political opponents but luckily America still has some vestige of the rule of law, who knows if he wins the way he is stacking the courts with sycophants he might become some American Hitler, after all he is of of German heritage.

He has outdone the 54% algorithm by yards... he didn’t hesitate to do his thing even in the opposition strongholds.
Like Kibaki said, even rigging should be done with some intelligence... lacking the sophistication that Kenya has perfected, he just proceeded on a blatant open rigging ya kimadharau!!! Even the main opposition candidates are losing seats in their strongholds.
What a tragedy...

Surely 12m versus 1m - Magufuli is popular. He is doing some stuff right. He has been busy from day 1 delivering. He has rarely visited abroad. Give the devil his dues. I don't like how he mess up with foreign investment, the climate of fear and all that. But admittedly he is doing some stuff right - he is there - everyday - providing leadership and solutions.He has won - if he rigged - it was waste of time and money - he was winning.
People don't want magic - they want someone like magufuli genuinely committed - waking up everyday - to work hard - Ruto in first round may clock 70 and 2nd round 90..:) :) - unless Raila become a spoiler :) which I suspect is going to be his Plan B.
Let not become so cynical such that when Trump wins - we start shouting US has rigged - Russia bla de bla - in greatest democratic state of US. Sijui algorithms. Computers. In Manual Elections.
Democracy is temocrazy as Moi said. Anything can happen. RESPECT PEOPLE WISHES. In Russia a sweeper was elected mayor - and mayor had nudged the sweeper to contest against her for credibility

He is genuine and deeply cares, he wants a functioning country, you can't fake that. Raia sense it so they give him benefit of doubt when he trips up.
He will pick up low hanging fruits but fact of matter is no African country has broken the ceiling of prosperity, the effortless wealth that comes natural to the countries of the North will still be out of reach. He may scare public servants stiff but will the economic engines be humming to provide jobs and revenues for government investment, will industry take off, or will they perennially be restricted to mdogo mdogo low margin economy and rent seeking for large multinational corps. I have my doubts.
