Title: HK Tea Taxes

Hi HK

I am working on a project to help local farmers in my village. Would you care to list all the taxes that you said are paid by Tea farmers to GOK. I think you mentioned about 25 taxes.

Anyone else with this info can help. My villagemates will be very thankful

Why do they still keep sentimental attachment to shitty tea while the dairy cows are on cash steroids? Why not uproot and grow fodder? Tea is a parasite crop, you sell milk to buy fertilizer and pay the pickers.

Well, it would be interesting if they can get tea picking machines - is there a practical sharing arrangement given the rigidity in tea factories receipt hours of the tea leaves.

Yes considering we are getting uganda tea prices - tea picking machines is the way to go for most of tea factories - there is a market glut. Yes Tea is dong badly - I think Unilver Tea will probably exit the market this year or next. And most of the multinationals too.

Arcadain has responded with the necessary info. To add to that your village mates need to decide whether they're in commodity business or tea business. If they're in commodity business they need to invest in production. Much of tea farming hasn't changed in last 30yrs. The processing hasn't changed either, the opportunity might be lowering cost of production and increasing output. If they're in tea business, the perfect example would be ocean spray in US. Create a brand invest genetics, processes, innovative new products e.g kombucha, tea for weight watchers or the " health" community etc. Bottomline farming by itself is a noble pursuit but its hardly a ticket to serious wealth creation.
