Title: New Musician I just discovered from Angola

Bastos is the name. Just heard about his death on NPR and decided to check out his music

He is singing in Portuguese. I don't like it. Angolans and Mozambicans need to realize they are Africans not Portuguese and drop Portuguese language and surnames. You see the same cultural imperialism with East Timorese, Cape Verdeans, Goans, Macanese. Portugal has been very successful in transmitting its culture without any push back from the locals.

Portuguese is one of their languages though.  The only beef I would have with them is their musical style which is generically Portuguese without little infusion of local styles.  A bit like how Kenyan singers often try to sound American.  The accents on his guitar are the same exact thing you would hear from Brazilian or Portuguese singer.  He is kind of okay though.
