:( Oh man, the fate of those poor cows. Talk about epic suffering  :-\ Seriously the greatest argument against the existence of god is the sheer amount of pain animals go through at the hands of human beings, how could such cruelty go unpunished for so long?. How could a benevolent god allow sentient feeling beings to go through that ordeal?. I'm not watching the rest because I know what to expect. If Nordic and Japan societies are held up as pinnacle of perfection in human development, Nigeria lies at the other extreme end. Chaotic, corrupt, brutal, Hobbesian, low trust society where nothing works. Some cultures are better off going extinct, they are just failed branches of human evolutionary tree.

And I think the cows have to know they are in trouble.  Don't let the hellscape discourage you from finishing.  At the end, Joseph, the Igbo copper hustler, saves up enough for his daughter's birthday party.

I am looking forward to part 2, Makoko the Venice of Lagos.

makoko is one hell of a place. Watched this years ago. There is a short fat man in the documentary that does a hell of a job giving the insights of makoko. He even takes a shit right into his fish farm where the talapia will eat it to fatten. I have never eaten talapia from Naija foods stores after watching that documentary.. Naija was on autopilot for over 40 years. The last 20 years seems to be righting the ship

That's disturbing.  Naija is a natural lab for survival of fittest.

Natural lab for the survival of the most *thieving* is more like it.

The most obnoxious people on this planet are Naijas, North and South.

Surprised that cattle from South Sudan are sold in Lagos. Mwafrika given our ingenuity even in depressive hell with transformative leadership can turn this shithole into paradise. Mwafrika works so hard to run away from indignity only to be pushed back by corruption.

I think you mean stoicism.  The cattle are Lagos because of market forces.  If you look at Africa's map, they must have moved through jungle and hell to get there.  No practical highway or railway connections, and yet Lagos is where they end up.  How bad must the market be elsewhere?  I agree, the leadership ain't happening.  Between Buhari and Salva Kiir, they have "bigger" fish(mostly just hanging onto power) to fry.

Naija is a reflection of what nyeuthi negroid survival skills is at play, without government most nyeuthi would behave same.  funny using night soil to feed tilapia. The thinking of nyeuthi is ukimshinda kwa uelevu basi kwa ujinga atakushinda.
