Title: Working from home - schooling from home.
Post by: RV Pundit on April 21, 2020, 07:00:56 PM
Today, my daughter began her 3rd term - online. Interesting times. I bet after a month or so - kids will wonder why they need to go to schools. The teaching went fairly well - considering MS Teams has a long way to go.

We need augmented reality from Robina.

Kids wear something and their reality is transformed into a classroom - and they can seem classmates - and the teacher somehow - in 3D kind of thing.

The world is upside down. This is a silver lining in Covid. Schools have outlived their usefulness though in some places like US and UK homeschooling well established. Imagine how much Moi used to spend on building classrooms that basically remain empty. Parents paying through the nose to build classrooms, buy buses...... Magoha will be rendered irrelevant day by day.

I remember asking if education can be disrupted you and others claimed that technology couldn't erase need for schools. Corona is showing that kids can easily adopt and do well in any enviroment. My argument is that school hours are longer than is humanely possible for them to be beneficial as means of acquiring knowledge. I am not sold in the need for everyone to be in school for over 5 hours a day. Unless you are a scholar there is no need for it

This is an elitist blurry joke on stilts for a few who don't want to accept that life can stop for two years.

Even State House is struggling with stable internet to project clear images. Elearning is a good lullaby for corrupt governments as it means you can threaten teachers how they are unnecessary - you only need one teacher for all students globally to log in and get content. Gates and his Teams will only be getting subscription not paying teachers. You can then arrest and fine poor hungry parents for not having reliable internet. It is just insane!!

There is need for schools for some obviously. Single parents, poor families, nomadic tribes and so on. But the current situation shows what we all knew. Not all children have to be in school by law. Those are just buildings and now they are empty the government can sit on those desks all day. Teachers will still be needed.

I don't know why this is a surprise. I have done it everyday for close to 20 yrs. I hold offshore meetings every day Monday through Thursday. Locally, every meeting has a bridge number to dial into, with added tools like video conference....so if you call a meeting locally, there is team members who prefer to dial in rather than go to the conference.

This is the new reality complements COVD-19.....why didn't we think about it!

RVP, perhaps now you can participate more in her education...lol

As much as i love internet schooling, I also think most learning is a social event. Its where you meet your crash, learn about difficult people, and many stories to tell. Doing away with schools will be a disaster socially. Human beings do much better in social gathering.

I am not a fan at all.  It requires your(parent's) constant involvement.  And that is for parents who can work from home.  I agree kids need to spend more time socializing.

The first week - and it going to be hard getting used to it. Yes some days the mic doesn't work or computer has an issue. We receive a phone call every day asking if she attended Xyz classes.  They are doing both online and offline lessons. Some lessons are offline...

Maybe in the future - instead of 5 days in school - they can go for two or 3 days - and do online lessons for some days.
