Title: Guys it's like a war zone here...
Post by: veritas on December 31, 2019, 09:26:11 AM
They've blocked all the roads here.. smoke haze everywhere. Sent all the hotel staff home... I'm in my hotel room pondering what the fk to do...  :o

I can't go home they've blocked the highways. ..

Views near the summit... kosciuszko.. no filter.. that's a raging fire behind me.. the rangers were telling everyone to get off the mountain.. and there were choppers circling above.. long story short we got to safety and to the hotel with all the staff gone since they evacuated. I've decided to stay...

Stay safe. Australia is going to be a hostile place as the climate has changed. Get some land in Kiwi and relocate

I saw this tweet.  Is that the same fire you are dealing with?

Hi Termi, different fire. I'm in the Snowy Mountains. I've attached the aftermath. I can't explain what's going on... I blame this on the firefighters and their poor exercise of backburning.. obviously the current prime minister for cutting firefighter funds. ..

Thanks KP, yes I'm going to relocate someday but not sure where.. will need to do a comprehensive research on livable destinations. Not a fan of NZ, the middle class isn't strong enough and it gives a progressive exterior but for everyday it's worse than Australia.. too much poverty in the middle class, far to go in terms of infrastructure and development.

Glad to hear you are safe. Hopefully rains will come and put an end to this

KP, the smoke hazard hasn't gotten better so I fled the Snowy Mountains to Canberra. Found a deal online for this hotel whom I thought was called Hotel Kookaburra and kept calling it that.. looks direlect sh!t outside but sort of modern inside and actually called "Hotel Kurrajong" I hit the roof with staff about how weak the airconditioner was at this hotel Kookaburra and demanded a refund for the rest of nights. Booked the Novotel straight away. They were strangely polite and patrons were dressed very nicely.. I'm in my thongs, barely there singlet top, short shorts, mangled hair covered in ash from bushfire drivethrough. .. carrying shopping bags with my belongings inside.. anyway I just read the card in the hotel room with the hotel's history... apparently this place was visited by the royal family to parliamentarians and the former prime minister had a heart attack literally across the hallway from my room.. the card ends with.. make history with us.. I told my mother about this and she smirked ... history about how you complained about the airconditioner at hotel kookaburra https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Kurrajong

On another note, I'm thinking about moving to Canada. I can't keep living in a burning nation. It's like smoking 100 cigarettes a day at the moment and they've run out of P2 masks. The smoke hazard in Canberra is just as bad ... I was thinking about flying out to Tasmania but that's burning too, to Perth and that too, Melbourne, Queensland, Australia is burning everywhere at the moment.

Canada is slated to be among safe countries when it comes to global warming ..so that would be a good place

Not quite the best of holidays. Pole veritas, hope the cooler air forecasts work to bring it under control.

Elections and consequences.  Apparently the guy they elected PM is a conservative asshole, so be gutted funds for controlling fires.

Sorry veri. Godspeed. I squatted for a fortnight to escape the deadly fumes in Nov. I lost my lovely peafowl.

Robina has been thru this, so she is able to give as much support as necessary.
Meanwhile, this is what the end looks like - California, Amazon, Australia, etc

Thanks Parker, so good to hear from you, please have a fruitful new year :)

Ro, I'm deeply saddened to hear about your beloved peafowl. I must've missed this. If it's not too painful to share, what happened?

Crows are among the smartest creatures in the animal kingdom.  Smarter than just about everything bar chimps and humans.
