Also known as the Cold Room Experience at UNILAG. I think it was also once a problem at UoN and KU in Kenya. It happens when a culture accepts that "powerful" men have a right to any woman they can lay their hands on. It's technically socially endorsed rape.

In Kenya rampant cheating of all sorts renders certification worthless. For a job, some applicants lie about qualification, others present forgeries, others have actual but fraudulently acquired papers, some use nepotism, yet others bribe the panel. The chance of the legit guy landing the job is slim. Private companies have to run private investigations and background checks which makes recruitment expensive. During the ferry mishap recently, someone quipped that the divers were probably incompetent beneficiaries of corruption and nepotism.
