They are way too silent on an issue that affects farmers (real Hustlaz)
The National Assembly has warned Agriculture Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri against his push for maize importation on grounds that Kenya has enough stocks in the granaries and at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).
Members of the Agriculture committee led by chairman Adan Haji told the government there was no justification to import maize.
The ministry has pushed for duty- free maize importation to boost grains supply to millers and curb raising flour prices, which on average stood at Sh119 for 2kg packet last month from Sh86.47 in March.
Millers have linked the rising prices to reduced supply of maize amid talk of farmers hoarding the grains.

This was their domain to make a quick buck. Arap Mashamba wants his people to plant avacados instead of maize and then he can import it from Mexico.

Because Kiunjuri is tanga tanga. Why would they attack their own. But like Ruto told RV farmers...maize farming is no longer profitable. Once you have less than 4-5 acres maize or sugar planting is useless. You need at least 30-100 acres to become profitable.
RV farmers need tough love. Maize is always coming in through Uganda, TZ and even now Ethiopia border..and you do not need Kiunjuri to order it.
The smart ones should transition to avadacos, dairy and such profitable ventures.

But Ruto frustrated Galana Kulalu specifically to appease his base. I think even Ruto would struggle killing maize farming as he seeks presidency.
All said, it’s RVs turn to be screwed right after Western Kenya sugar farmers.

Farmers don't need tough love, we need to liberalize the sector. Ncpb need to be disbanded and made to be a warehouse storage system as Jim mbaru had proposed. Kiunjuri is a crony capitalist, everything he owns is as a result of being in government. His electricity poles company, he started it after he was named assistant minister for energy.

That I agree entirely. Maize sector should be left to dry on it's own. I know ugali is the staple but surely once our farmers diversify - we can import as much as we want - and really looking forward - wheat & rice consumption is rising at double-digit annually - so maize may not be in play long term.
