If Muhoho Kenyatta is found to have imported contraband sugar, he should be investigated and prosecuted, President Kenyatta, his elder brother, has said.
Addressing the 2018 American Chamber of Commerce Economic Summit at UN in Gigiri, Nairobi, Mr Kenyatta on Thursday said he has full confidence in government agencies involved in the fight against corruption.

"People are out there bundling my brother yesterday... I have no problem. If he is guilty let him be dealt with, what's the problem?" the President said.
"We must develop trust in our institutions, that they will protect the innocent and prosecute the guilty."
On Tuesday, Aldai MP Cornelius Serem claimed Muhoho’s company, Protech Investment Limited, had imported about 180,000 metric tonnes of brown sugar into the country.
Mr Serem, angered by the failure of Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i to show up for grilling over the dirty sugar imports, also alleged a plot to shield the younger Kenyatta from investigations.
Some of Deputy President William Ruto’s allies are suspicious of the war on corruption and see it as part of a political battle targeting him and his chances of succeeding the President.
However, President Kenyatta warned politicians politicising the fight against graft in government, saying every leader should carry their own cross.
“I ask all of you, please leave politics out of this game and let’s do that which is necessary for our country,” he said.
Already, Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has come to the defence of the younger Mr Kenyatta and turned the heat on Mr Serem.
On Wednesday, he vowed to file a protest with the Powers and Privileges Committee.
“You cannot be allowed to go and sit in Parliament and in a crude way, using a village approach, and decide that you want to malign the names of others and get off scot-free,” Mr Kiunjuri told journalists at a press conference at Kilimo House.

“Even if he goes and stands on top of a tree or a mountain and says what he wants to speak, investigations have to go on,” added Mr Kiunjuri.
The CS did not deny the MP’s claim that the company is co-owned by the President’s brother.
He, however, said that the firm did not import “a single grain of sugar”.
“In fact, the company has never imported any type of sugar,” he said.
The CS also had a bone to pick with Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) as he demanded an explanation on why the company’s name was in the list he filed on Monday.
He told journalists that Protech Investment applied for an importation licence in 2011 but had never received communication from AFA on whether it had been approved or not.
As such, the minister argued, Protech appearing in the list of 370 names of sugar importers was anomalous because it legally did not have a licence.
“The information I have, and I have sought clarification from AFA, is that this company applied in 2011, not 2013. This company applied and never received any communication from AFA on whether they have succeeded or not.

“They are also surprised to read their name in the press when it was mentioned by the said member. Therefore, it is a subject of investigations,” he said.
The former Laikipia East MP said that he would not leave his office on Wednesday until he established how Protech became part of the list.
“Even if I will be in office until 12am or the whole night, I’m not leaving office until I get all the facts,” he vowed.
“I have to know how the name got into the list that we took to Parliament,” he said.
Mr Kiunjuri’s defending of Mr Muhoho came against the backdrop of his appearance before a joint Trade and Agriculture committee on Monday.
In his presentation he provided the list of 370 firms.

Ouru is now loaded for battle. He is now cool and calm and no longer emotional. That is not good for Ruto. When you want to fight a king, you have to kill him. The first blow Ruto throw at Ouru was not even enough for a lousy bloody nose. Now Ouru can justify to kikuyu laity why Ruto is dangerous and has to be destroyed. Meanwhile Raila is becoming more disciplined than I thought possible. I am still crossing my fingers but old dogs can learn new tricks. He slipped when he got excited with the life style audit and injected himself into the conversation despite advice to stay out. He however redeemed himself when he and his surrogates refused to respond to the pathetic/desperate attacks by Ruto tanga tanga squad which show cased Peter Kenneth.

All documents to be tabled before parliament and committees from the executive go through the Leader of Majority. Ruto happens to control both. Duale could have stopped it but he noticed and kept quiet. Kiunjuri is now claiming that the name was added between his office and Parliament.
That is a hard sell: Because the total number of names he provided earlier = the total number of names on the list. Unless one was replaced ( and he is not saying which).
He is also fudging that the Muhoho company asked to import in 2011 and not 2017. In which case he has LIED to parliament because he presented a list of those who imported sugar in 2017. In short Kiunjuri has either been played or is part of the play. He has angered his benefactors real bad.
On the other hand there are those who say he was slow to join Ruto's bandwagon and was therefore given a kick in the balls so he can know where to stand or so he can reveal his true position. He is not doing well.
Uhuru lacks a Biwott like figure. What with Njiraini openly blaming him before parliament and Kinyua being absent minded and even lying in court. Now that is a jon you give Omollo or Pundit. On condition pundit stops drinking. Alcohol interferes with memory and denies one concentration. In brief and seriously Uhuru has been played and he just has to negotiate his exit.

He sure is digging. Uhuru has never really fought any real war - he always had Ruto doing the dirty work for him - so we shall see how he fares.

It's funny though, that Uhuru has decided to pick corruption. A Kenyatta, no one will take this seriously. His family has gained more through corruption than probably any other group ever in the country. I wonder why he chose this particular issue. It's a bit strange.

It is a no win situation:
If he is investigated and tried, Uhuru loses face and support
If he is "cleared", nobody believes it and Uhuru still loses
If he tried and acquitted - same poison
If he is tried and sentenced: Ruto looks like the winner and he gets an Amin like title: The Conqueror of the Kenyatta Empire (CKE)
If he is slapped on the wrist: same poison that killed Socrates
I think Ruto is not interested in trying Muhoho. He is out to destroy Uhuru's credibility. He wants his constituents to realize that Uhuru's war on corruption is just a game targeting him (Ruto). He wants sympathy and lastly he is looking for the casus belli to strike a coup de grace.

He picked corruption because Ruto is the target and is very vulnerable to the charge. Ouru's money is old kikuyu corruption that most kikuyus do not want to talk about but Ruto's money can all be traced to recent corruption.

Omollo, people already know that both ouru and Ruto are thieves, murderers and liars and therefore the issues of credibility is neither here nor there. Kalenjins will find Ruto credidble and Kikuyus are already trooping back to nyoomba. This is where Raila comes in. Raila supporters are already warming up to ouru and the choice of Migori for a meeting between Magufuli and Ouru was not an accident. Kenyans are already taking sides NOT based on who is right or wrong but based on tribal politics as usual.
