I am surprised that standard eight kids reading and comprehension skills are that of an American standard five kid. It seems tsc is still engaged in teaching for exams. I think only the top 1 percent kids can be competitive internationally. Does Kenya really teach kids to be able to think critically and solve problems? A high school kid from Kenya can barely solve algebra equation. The students I am seeing lack basic maths skills. Kenya needs to reevaluate and find a solution to these low standards

Well - even the US school system has arithmetic, comprehension, etc problems. But your comparison is unnecessary - in term of "quality" Kenya is nowhere.
WORLD EDUCATION RANKING - on reading, maths & science - they don't even bother to rank Africa :(

Overall Singapore & Japan are the top - in reading, maths & science. China is doing great given its massive size

Kenya 0.515 - it means the average Kenyan drops out of high school

SA - 14%
Kenya - ? UPDATE: considering most stats show <1M graduates, this is rough est 5% of 25yr+ population

Education is dicy... considering schooling is about economic development. Russia has some of the best indicators from all angles - kids per teacher, no of graduates, gender parity, etc - yet performs dismally economically - with the lowest productivity in Europe 8)

That is partially it I believe. Corruption eats away at the culture of hard work.
