Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula has accused Jubilee administration of intimidating IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati.
This followed the withdrawal of the chairman's security detail on grounds that the state was making changes to the team.
A source at the commission confirmed that the bodyguards were recalled on Friday under unclear circumstances.
This was after Chebukati named a project team to oversee the October 17 fresh presidential election.
The poll was ordered by the Supreme Court after NASA leader Raila Odinga successfully petitioned Uhuru Kenyatta's August 8 win.
Wetang'ula on Saturday said it was unconstitutional for the state to withdraw the IEBC boss' security.
He spoke at a funeral in Mahala village in Webuye West constituency which was attended by a host of Ford Kenya MPs.
The legislator Chebukati is a head of an independent institution whose security must not be compromised at any chance.
