The man is so confident saying it. Can Ruto say this???
Anyway justice Magara took a bible and swore he never took a bribe on TV.
-
They do this all the time. They swore by the holy books to be faithful, etc - the polygraph wouldn't nail them because they don't value integrity. Pagans don't sin.

I don't understand this swearing by Bible thing

Oaths have legal implications I understand but I don't see how throwing in a bible or God there makes it more solemn. If I ever take any, I will not invoke my faith to spice it up.

I think context is important. He was asked if he has ever taken bribes and whether he would. This is how he decided to answer the question. It worked because of the way he did it. The reason why the interviewers request candidates to appear physically is to judge their veracity and credibility through not only their words but their demeanor. I think those interviewing Maraga that day were stunned beyond words. If they felt he was acting you would have seen a different expression in their faces. Maraga came across as very credible and probably in that brief bible moment, history was made, he sealed the deal not only for the job and is the reason why this election was nullified. It was a historical moment in a country where impunity and ukora reigns.

Well, I think it is theatrics. We go weak on our knees when God is invoked and anyone can successfully ride it. His act was all but forgotten and was only pulled out after the ruling. It sort of says 'see he can't be corrupted! Just as swore.... so his decision is SOUND'. I can assure you no NASWA fan would be amused juxtaposing the clip against another verdict.

Maybe another verdict is impossible because he was unmoved by jubilant attempts at effecting it. I can see how that juxtaposition would rile not only a NASA supporter, but I too would lose it. Maraga has done more for SDAs credibility than ten years worth of Daily Bread's threads.

I think you are being cynical. Not everybody would have pulled that off. Anyway his subsequent actions as CJ has confirmed that that bible moment was not an act. He does not come through as a man who has taken a lot of acting lessons. Wakora are not hard to figure out-we just tolerate them.

I don't for a second doubt his integrity, I only maintain it is naive to be flattered by theatrics

The guy chose to use the Bible to answer the questions be cause he knows that the Book represents something significant to him. He believes in it. This is unlike the current and former Kenyan leaders.

Robina,
Few people have cheated the polygraph, and at the same time the polygraph also makes mistakes.
