This is the impact of private equity funds investment. Now they have capital to increase outlets. Goodlife in pharmacy is another growth story courtesy of PEs.

hk, be carefull when writting anything to do with pharmacy. In Kenya you have to state precisely when kind of pharmacy you mean, Kidero's or Sonko's?

Yeah the amount of FDI flowing into Kenya is astounding. We need to keep the reforms on stuff that matters on - Ease of doing business/Infrastructure/Macro-economics - and we can sit & watch money flow in.

Kericho town either has a sizable middle class or a transit town that gets a lot of stopovers. Maybe its both.

Kericho is home to 3 big companies - James Finlay (World & Kenya leading floriculture & also big in tea & it's extracts), Uniliver Tea & Ketepa -if you add to few GoK/University/NGO type - also add to sizeable Indian business class there - that is about enough middle class to sustain Java. It's also stop -over for tourist who need to sample Kericho finest tea. As a transit to Kisumu - that is pretty much gone - with shorter Londian-Muhoroni - now prefered.

Java was bought for 13b or $130m that's some serious cash for a company with revenue of about 4b-5b http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/corporate/Java-founder-pocket-Sh1-3bn-takeover-deal----/539550-3998854-9ku3dnz/index.html . This PE funds are getting seriously good returns.
