And how come they did not replace it instead of building a new one? Or was it because they wanted to acquire lots of land? Someone had to be paid for the land they had bought a few years back!!!.
For the new proposed rail, Why dont they replace the onld one instead of another land buying spree?

It was not about building a railway or a fast rail etc. It was not even about making an economic investment (though pro-Jubilee "economists" would waste no time tearing their degrees to support the thieves). It was about stealing money to prepare to steal the 2017 elections.

Old railway is loan out RvR for 25yrs...and once that is done...I think the plan is to convert that to SGR too. That is why new Raila is going through Narok to Bomet to Kisii to Kisumu to Maseno to Yala to Malaba...rather than Nakuru/Eldoret to Malaba

We shall fix that. We shall fix it cheaply too
There are ways to speed up the old rail. One can reduce the bends make it more straight, strengthen bridges before buying modern trains with high speeds. I think the old rail if modernized without making it SGR can be faster and more economic. For starters if the East African countries do the same, it would be automatically more economic.
