Most governors will retain their seats in August elections, a new study conducted in four counties has revealed.
The survey by Trends and Insights for Africa (Tifa) conducted in Bomet, Siaya, Nandi and Murang’a counties has also shown that party affiliation only matters in the presidential elections.
In Bomet, for instance, Governor Isaac Ruto is the most popular at 44 per cent followed by Joyce Laboso (32 per cent), Julius Kones (19 per cent) while 6 per cent of the residents are undecided.
When the 660 respondents were asked which political party they feel close to, 71 per cent said Jubilee Party, 15 per cent Mr Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani and 6 per cent are closer to National Super Alliance (Nasa).
For the senate, 24 per cent said they would vote for Kanu’s Nick Salat while the incumbent Prof William Lesan would get 20 per cent.
The survey in Bomet was conducted between February 15 and 19, this year with both males and females aged 18 years and above taking part in the face to face interviews with a margin error of +/-4 percent.
NASA STRONG IN SIAYA
Of the four counties, Nasa was strong in Siaya county with a closeness of 97 per cent, 2 per cent for Jubilee while 1 per cent are undecided.
In the gubernatorial race, Governor Cornel Rasanga is still the strongest contender at 40 per cent, William Oduol 29 per cent, Gumbo Nicolas 20 per cent and James Orengo 3 per cent.
Interestingly while Mr Orengo performs poorly in the governor's race, 87 per cent would elect him as senator.
A total of 350 Siaya residents aged 18 years and above (both male and female) participated in the face to face interview with a margin error of +/-5 per cent at 95 per cent confidenc

I hope this one is free of vested interests. We have most of the Polls heavily politicized. They cut the same old corners we all know. Take that old man of Ipsos. You ask people in well known Jubilee strongholds who they would vote for and are surprised they all say Jubilee?!
On Bomet, I told Pundit Isaac will come back but he said the current Deputy Speaker will be the first female governor. May be the Kipsigis have advanced that far in Kenya. She starts off with her gender as her biggest handicap. It may be assuaged by the influence of WSR but not big enough to overcome Isaac.
As governor, he basically had a free hand to spend.
I am also reliably informed that Isaac has received invisible support from those whose necks allow them to see 2022. I remember how Gideon Moi bankrolled MaDvD's enemies to knock him out of politics. He thought Uhuru would win and MaDvD would fail to qualify to be VP by virtue of not being elected. Simple brains.

The performance of these pioneer governors has been dismal and totally disappointing. The current inflation, hunger and gloom atmosphere won't help. I won't be surprised if 30% of them are knocked out at nominations and another 20% - 30% defeated at the General Elections.
This is in line with our trend of kicking out 70% of mashinani incumbents.

I guess you finally found an opinion poll that you loved. Isaac is going home. Right now Jubilee nomination has yet to be done...once Jubilee nomination has been done...UhuRuto & party will start from there. Joyce just need to win Jubilee nomination. She is leading. After that - she needs to ask his Luo husband Prof Abonyo to prepare to be Bomet First man. His excellence Prof Abonyo.
As you see only 15% of bomet identify with ccm...with 70% in Jubilee.
Isaac is going home.

Rv Pundit,
What happened to the brilliant Julius Kones? Can he win the jubilee ticket? I loved what he did for the tea sector, I even tried to get our mp to emulate him and fully liberalize the coffee sector. Alfred Nderitu is another Mp who's good work of fully liberalizing the rice sector has yielded in good returns for farmers. Also rice milling and packaging companies being established in Mwea town.

Kones was our mp and was not corrupt - his problem is the perception he is too soft for Isaac Ruto who plays hard ball. Yeah I am amazed by what is going on in Mwea - every time I pass there to see my in-laws.
