Title: Pundit Why is Digital Jubilee Against Digital Electoral Technology
Post by: Omollo on December 19, 2016, 09:41:05 AM
What is the real reason behind the 11th hour change of heart to force the manual voting system where 2,000,000 people voted for Uhuru ONLY and forgot about MCAs, Senators, Governors, MPs etc?

Quote
Renewed battle between Jubilee and the Opposition over electoral laws and reconstitution of the polls commission is back with force, and may trigger a political crisis.

At the core of the differences is the delay in hiring of new commissioners and the move by Jubilee to change election laws to allow a manual process should the biometric system fail.

CORD insists on an electronic system of voting and transmission of results through the Integrated Election Management System as contained in the Election Laws (amendment) Act.

The Opposition is now threatening to go back to street protests to make sure the law is not changed.

Opposition legislators are also planning to disrupt debate on election laws during the special sitting of the National Assembly tomorrow.

Coalition for Reforms and Democracy leader Raila Odinga and his Amani coalition counterpart Musalia Mudavadi have accused the Jubilee administration of plotting to rig next year's General Election.

Jubilee intends to rig, thats has been their plan from the word go.They know that electronic transmision of results will not give them room for manipulation at the national tallying centre.CORD has to kaa ngumu on this.

digital is subject to hacking.

Yes.  But hacking is traceable.  Biometric voter id and verification are an absolute minimum requirement for a passable election.  I would include transmission of provisional results.  Remove those and you guarantee a rigged election.  No ifs, no buts.  This is Kenya.

That is why digital system has to fail and IEBC will go back to manualtallying.

What is the real reason behind the 11th hour change of heart to force the manual voting system where 2,000,000 people voted for Uhuru ONLY and forgot about MCAs, Senators, Governors, MPs etc? :D :D :D

I lack the confidence that they can implement anything viable for 2017.  It doesn't feel like they have spent anytime on it.  Too much trust in providence.  That won't stop someone out there making off like a bandit on some contract to "do the system".

Composition of IEBC, voter register, manual or technology, new electoral laws  .... A sensible Opposition would have been working on these from 2013.  Instead, we have have "Oh shit! There are elections around the corner!".

Aug 2016: IEBC lot to leave.  http://www.businessdailyafrica.com/Kenya-s-polling-body-officials-to-exit-office/539546-3329012-15bessjz/index.html

Dec 2016: How many commissioners have left?

Expect continuing entertainment until the day before  the elections.   Then the real fun right after that.
