From the Kriegler report, we were warned:
IREC recommends that expiry of the terms of office of ECK members not coincide with election years. Ideally, a fully composed commission should be in office for two years prior to the conduct of general or presidential elections. IREC recommends that the ECK be made accountable to Parliament, without prejudice to its status as an independent body; this should affect the channels by which it establishes and seeks approval for its budgetary requests.

We have less than a year to go and haven't even started looking for replacements for the IEBC.
How's this gonna pan out? Will the new commissioners have enough time to prepare and run credible elections next year?

Without taking any sides, everything has to be done last minute because of Raila. Changes are always demanded and made with a view to the next election. As a result, it is opposed by the other side for the same reason, even if it is a good change. If you mention long term, everyone reaches for a dictionary.
Kenya will keep fumbling in the dark, until the day people decide to do things for posterity rather than political expedience.

Reminds me of the repeal to Section 2A, IPPG, Wako draft, etc before the new constitution. Alas, some people want it reviewed too - more county funds, etc,? Change is gradual and its champions are a PLUS regardless of their methods.

Kenyans are hostage to the shortsighted goals of the "champions of change". It's been reduced to little more than a power struggle. The mantra is if I don't get power in this cycle, I must get it in the next one. The changes should favor that. No matter how screwed up the process leaves the country.
The reality is this is a process that can be defined in one cycle, and take more than two to complete. There should probably be a moratorium on elections for two terms. A transitional setup. Nigeria had the benefit of military rule to outline just how their democracy would work. They seem to be cooking with gas on that front.
