Title: Stop pestering me to join Mudavadi, says Oparanya
Post by: Simanova on July 20, 2016, 04:46:25 PM
These are some the things a party leader watches out for.

When Raila brought in Khalwale, Oparanya made noise and had to be reassured. That is why Raila is reducing or minimising appearance with individual leaders as we approach nominations.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has urged local leaders to stop pestering him to join ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi.

The deputy ODM party leader said he is already discussing Luhya leadership with Mudavadi.

But he is in ODM and is following events in the party as a key member, Oparanya said.

“We have talked, but I don’t want to say what we’re talking about. When I talk to Mudavadi on the phone I must not shout out what we’ve discussed at

funerals like other leaders do,” he said. “I have worked with Mudavadi before and I understand him well. He introduced me to Cord leader Raila

Odinga and the deputy party leader position I am holding in ODM belonged to him.”

Oparanya said Mudavadi is the only Luhya presidential candidate he can support because he is respected and respects others.

He accused Jubilee of causing divisions in Western by engaging individuals.

He said he disagreed with Cord leader Raila Odinga after he turned down his proposal to have Mudavadi included in the parliamentary joint select committee on reform of the IEBC.

“I wanted Mudavadi included in the team because he is sober and had MPs elected under him, but the party leader instead preferred Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale who is not representing my interests,” he said.

The committee, which started its work last week, is considering reforms that could result in the of electoral agency commissioners.

The committee has seven members each from Jubilee and Cord.

It is co-chaired by Senators Kiraitu Murungi (Meru) and James Orengo (Siaya) and has 30 days to present its report.

Oparanya attended a funds drive in aid of Handiti Friends’ Church in Kakamega where Mudavadi was chief guest on Sunday.

He said the Luhya are not attractive to others in terms of leadership because of disunity and offered to team up with Mudavadi to unite the region.

If I take a guess I would say zero (Maragoli Voters). Why do you ask? The last time you or somebody asked the same about Hola we spent days on Ormas and Pokomos.

Oparanya and Khalwale are balanced in strength. I expect whoever loses the CORD ticket to decamp and lose there.

Oparanya has the Kisa and Marama on his side while Khalwale has the Idakho and Isukha on his. Now there is a third person RTD Major Sumba who has the Wanga on his side. He defected to Jubilee for the money. His people are ODM damu so he has a problem there.

There are smaller sub tribes - Nyala, Tsotso, Kabras (Soita Shitanda) etc who will break the tie between the two. Unfortunately for Oparanya, Sumba has irked the Wanga against him while Khalwale has an edge with respect to Nyala, Tsotsos and Kabras.

Khalwale's problem is that citizen want him to remain senator and they want Oparanya to remain governor. They like both men but their war is hard to understand.

I can add that Oparanya is a quiet crook and a very able campaigner. He could surprise Khalwale
