Turkey is 99% Sunni so no. Saudis are 85% Sunni, Iran is 90% Shiite hence their stability. Iraq and Syria are divided hence the strife. It is religious sectarianism that causes the civil wars, just like S. Sudan or Rwandese tribes. Kenya's parochial tribalism is thwarted by the count: too many so no sustained grievances can work.

Kurds are 15-30% of turkey. That is only serious cause of instability. But I agree with the general premise.

True: Kurds are a strange ethnic outlier. Pakistan for example despite endless military coups and Taliban is a Sunni monolith hence the peace. I never understand how Muslims just go so intolerant over a miscalculation in the hadiths. Only place I have seen this in western culture is Ireland where IRA catholics and Protestants butcher each other; and of course African tribal mayhem in Rwanda, etc.

Perhaps a slight misunderstanding.   Someone wrote "EU", but another read "AU".

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan promised "a new Turkey" after Friday’s failed coup. Its shape had already been emerging but the amateurish takeover attempt, which Erdogan called "a gift from God," gives him additional tools to realize it.

Muslim countries like Turkey have systems incompatible with EU liberal model. Imagine in Germany, Poland, Hungary, Austria you have rightwing parties openly hostile to islam in their policies. Check Germany's AfD and Dutch nationalist folks like Wilders. At EU level Turkey has to work on death penalty, human rights, press freedom, women rights, gay rights, Kurdish/minority rights... hopeless.

Trump admires Turkey's despot.
He plans to do the same to fed employees.
