Protest erupted in Kisumu and Migori on Tuesday after the arrest of Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed.
The Migori demos started earlier on Tuesday while the Kisumu ones happened later in the evening.
In Kisumu, protesters lit huge bonfires using tires in Kondele and Kibuye on the Kisumu – Kakamega highway to demand the release of the politicians arrested in connection with hate speech.
The youths, chanting freedom slogans accused the police of failing to arrest Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria for appearing to suggest the assassination of Cord leader Raila Odinga.
Motorists were forced to use alternative routes as the protesters blocked all entry and exit points with boulders.
Trouble began at 5:30pm after the news went round that Mr Muthama had been arrested.
“We are demanding the release of Muthama and Junet. We are tired of the constant arrests of our leaders,” said a protester.
STORMED BUSY STREETS
Kisumu ODM County chairman Prof Ayiecho Olweny said the party was not party to the protests, which he said were an offshoot of the one in Migori.
In Migori, hundreds of Mr Junet’s supporters stormed busy streets, carrying placards denouncing the Jubilee administration for the move.
They blocked all major roads in the town with tyres and boulders, interrupting traffic flow for several hours.
The residents said they will not sit back and watch as the Jubilee government frustrated opposition leaders.

Funny.
You write that the media is not reporting unrest then link to a media article reporting the unrest.
Do you happen to have any media links for the Tala and UoN unrest?

Kibera demo reported by the Washington Post:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Demonstrations erupted in Kenya’s largest slum Tuesday over footage appearing to show a pro-government legislator saying top opposition leader Raila Odinga can be assassinated, an opposition official and witnesses said.
Analysts say the remarks reflect long-simmering tribal tensions that are heating up again, eight years after they exploded into violence that left more than 1,000 people dead in the aftermath of a disputed presidential election. Kenya is holding general elections next year.
A coffin marked with the name of the legislator, Moses Kuria, was burned during Tuesday’s protests, said the head of the Orange Democratic Party in Kibera slum, Sam Ochieng. Odinga is the party’s leader, and Kibera is an opposition stronghold.
An Associated Press reporter saw police fire tear gas at demonstrators, who responded with stones.
Kuria and seven other legislators have been questioned by police over remarks that police say may amount to hate speech. The legislators include four opposition members of parliament who threatened to storm the office of the police chief if he doesn’t take action against Kuria.
