Title: R.I.P. Lucy Kibaki 1940 - 2016
Post by: Omollo on April 26, 2016, 01:44:28 PM
May The Almighty Rest her soul in eternal peace. She was a mitigating factor against her husband's murderous tendencies

Because she died 5 years ago? Murdered?

She was admitted at Karen Hospital. I think her condition was such that there was little the doctors could do about it.

That said I think there should much done to focus on mental health in Kenya. Poor people are condemned to death should they suffer from that distemper. They end up dying in dirty alleys and are often buried in unmarked graves.

Mental health is a disease just like diabetes or HBP. It needs to be managed. Poor managements leads to poor quality of life. Am sure she did not die of mental illness. I think her disease (whatever it was) was poorly managed.

Sad.  Very sad.

A state funeral for the dear wife appears to be in the offing.

May she RIP.

Ah... a totally undeserved state funeral. On what basis? Kenyans are truly an excitable lot.

What did she achieve or accomplish for the country other than being the first wife of the man who stole an election in 2007?

Sorry folks, I'm a contrarian. This woman, Lucy Kibaki, was as flawed as they come. In my mind, she was borderline kooky. In a normal and civilized society she would have been charged in court for a misdemeanor for slapping that poor lad who was simply doing his job taking photos for his newspaper. So why is it that we suddenly paint such a despicable person in pastel tones because she died?

As for Kenyatta, a guy not known for being rational or subscribing to reason, well he's simply showing us his impulsive nature; he has his priorities wrong. He could simply have had the public pay their respects to her in a public forum and then have the rest held in private or public as the family desires, but she does not warrant a state funeral. This decision was probably made with some base calculations in mind -- atavism at play. And your tax shillings down the drain.

Oh...RIP.

Kenyans have gotten used to this. GEMA have perfected the art of using state resources on what should be private affairs. Had this been a Luo or Luhya we would be raising funds every evening (if need be) and bury our dead.

I can list many examples under Kibaki and Uhuru where GoK (remember the REAL meaning) has lavished state tax-payer funds on the GEMA dead while doing nothing for others. Again this is one of those things you mention at the expense of getting stones hurled at you.

One would keep quiet out of respect for the dead. However when despite this, the same greedy and selfish lot take to the roofs and other high places and shout and beat their chests about how "hard working" they are and by implication (when Kuria and Ngunyi are not the speakers) accuse others of laziness, what is to be expected but a robust defense of the honor of those others?

In one week a billion dished out to a tribe and millions (may be billions, who knows about opaque financial management) will be lavished on a funeral.

Note that Luos and Luhyas usually contribute money to assist poor families that cannot afford the expensive cost of transporting dead bodies to Western. Financially able families normally reject any such help.

She built a Mama Lucy hosp for women, an accomplishment that helped many poor women.
Govt resources should not be used for her burial, except security.
Kibaki is a rich man.

Did she or she named herself after it. Mama Lucy was built as a grant by Chinese. Kibaki are rich but very stingy. They can start by having Lucy Kibaki foundation to help street kids.

I think that was her pet project she wanted to be remembered for.

I heard something about national mourning. Amazing. This is a private affair. We all loved her but her death should not result in any economic wastage -- public spending or holidays. Such backwardness.

She pitched for it on a visit to China with her husband. The Chinese agreed and set about constructing it. I wish she had been generous enough to locate it in NEP. But.. it is her work and hatuwezi kumdhulumu umarufu wake. The words of Jonathan Swift in Gullivers Travels:
