I hope the YES side wins. Scotland should be allowed to make her own mistakes.

Why would it be a mistake.

I don't know the details of how the UK works. But if it's something analogous to Mississippi(or any other state) opting to go it alone as a separate country, it's a terrible idea. I can understand such a move if the seceding unit is
1) the engine of an economy.
2) is not dependent on the rest of the country for the same fortunes.
3) the rest of the country is actually a drag on its fortunes.
There might be other factors in play that Bryan wa Endebess might be able to shed some light.

The Scots have been ballin Bai'd by the English for centuries now. It's time to cut the ties and chart their own destiny.
Ironocally, most of the British accomplishments in science, engineering, the oil etc are actually Scottish. Peter Higgs, Alexander Flemming etc...
Hata John Loudon McAdam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Loudon_McAdam) and Dolly the cloned sheep were Scots.
Things are heating up..

Unfortunately Scotland is a big welfare economy. Oil - diminishing returns. Driven by foolish pride and emotions. Biggest mistake.

They aren't going to address any of that island problems while hidding behind England. Once they are alone..they can begin to chart their way..ala Ireland. They are doing okay with own parliament and court systems; with devolution; and naturally independence will be the results of that. Maybe scotland culture and identity will resurrected.
Economically they have oil, fishing and Scottish whisky going for them.

Belgium is going the the first to split into two; dutch speaking beligum and french speaking belgium have nothing in common. Spain catalina (barcelona) will eventually split.
The progressive thing is these can of splits are happening peacefully.
Englad eventually will have to let go of Wales and Northern Ireland.

The Royal Bank of Scotland and the Lloyds Banking group among others have threatened to move their headquarters to London in the event of a 'YES' vote.
