I ran into their stand at my local mall today. Looks like they're seeping into Australia.
-
Huwai is going to be one of biggest global tech companies for a long time...going by the patents they're filling alone.
-
I'm not so sure about that. The stand was completely empty. That day I just got a new phone with HTC, although it was broken so I'm getting it replaced with a Microsoft phone. As a consumer when I think of a Chinese brand it doesn't sit well with me, even though other brands are made in China as well. I think it comes down to user functionality. Recognized brands know the user like HTC, Nokia etc. I don't even think iPhone, or event Microsoft know a phone user. I have an iphone and it's just awful.

What are Australians using techwise if not Chinese?
China is main trade partner of Australia! Imports from China - 20%; Exports to china - 36%

I won't be surprised even the queen will be using several gadgets from China in a few years

Might be made in China but brand, services etc. not from China.

isnt htc a chinaman brand?
Best phones are starting to emerge from china. Talk of xiaomi et al.. I believe they will eclipse iPhone, samsung in a few years.

It's Taiwanese. HTC commercialised the first smart phones in the world.

I think they are already the biggest having overtaken Ericsson. Which is impressive given that they are virtually non-existent in the US.

Surely, not tech companies. Here is a purported list of the world's largest:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_largest_information_technology_companies (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_the_largest_information_technology_companies)
Hard to find Huawei.
If one considers just mobile phones, then there's a list like this:
http://allusefulinfo.com/top-10-largest-mobile-phone-makers-of-the-world/ (http://allusefulinfo.com/top-10-largest-mobile-phone-makers-of-the-world/)
And Xiaomi is only 5 years old, so there's no telling where it will go.
I think they are the largest specifically in telecom equipment. Or one of the largest.
To be fair, in recent times, it's hard to say where exactly to place some of these companies. A lot of overlapping and merging of things that were once considered distinct. There was a time it was easy to distinguish between information tech and communications companies. It's a bit tougher these days to say what kind of animal Apple or Google is for instance. These guys are in the middle of trying to become everything. From smart home appliances, futuristic cars to space-faring technology.
Though, you are right, if you combine what can generally pass for tech today, then Huawei is not quite there. Still I think in some aspect, like physical communication equipment, Huawei(maybe Cisco or Ericsson) might be there. Huawei I suspect mostly by virtue of dominating the huge Chinese market.

I believe it is the largest. In fact, I just lost my response while editing it to note both that (specifically to add another list that distinguishes between "I Tech", "Tech", etc) and this:

Huawei will be big, but quality will be a mirage for some time to come. Their phones don't last a year.
