Title: Uhuru in historic address to Uganda parliament.
Post by: RV Pundit on August 10, 2015, 04:41:07 PM
This is good for democracy and east africa federation.

I like these parts...

One example is the Standard Gauge Railway, whose construction, starting in Mombasa, is progressing on schedule. On its completion, it will dramatically reduce cargo transport costs by 60% to the benefit of Ugandan businesses, farmers and consumers alike.

Its benefits have been felt most in Asia, and particularly in the countries of the greater Indian Ocean Rim. We have observed from afar countries travel from the wretched poverty too many of our people still suffer, to great wealth in two generations. See also: Kenya’s security agencies as the weakest link We are now growing at the same pace the Asian tigers did.

Our growing youth population will draw the world’s manufacturers, banks, technological companies, and a host of others.  Its education, connectivity to the world, and aspiration to a better tomorrow will give us a globally competitive labour market.

The guy must have been stoned at the time.   Otherwise, it is hard to explain this:

Quote
The greatest of them is the African Union whose goal for a half-century has been to erase the borders between us that were drawn in distant imperial capitals.

First, nobody---and that includes Africans---ever thinks of the AU as "great" or even "good".  Second, nobody has the slightest interest, beyond hot air, in erasing those borders. Nor has there been any attempt, which perhaps explains why it remains a "goal for a half-century".   Indeed, all sorts of funny visa regulations make it difficult for an African to even travel to other countries in Africa.

And the rest of his speech included more "serious and earnest" jokes of that calibre.

Aren't EAC,COMESA, ECOWAS, SADC all "parts" of AU efforts to integrate the Africa socio-economic future. I would think so.Africa has a long way to go but she has taken some steps. Kenya which has been a by-stander seem to be waking up to it's leading role at least in East Africa.

Looks like after the Obama circus, kamwana now feels legitimate enough to legitimize Museveni's dictatorship.  The UG opposition were made to sit through the incoherent rambling.

The speech would have been historical had he left out the opposition bashing. Uhuru talks as if the opposition is there to play cuddle with the govt. If he did so as leader of opposition, then he missunderstood his role. Also Uganda is not the place to talk about democracy where opposition leaders are treated like dogs.

That will be a recipe for disaster.
