According to the survey released on Wednesday, September 3, the Democratic Party's (DP) Newton Karish leads the race with 40.1% support. Trailing Karish is the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance's (UDA) candidate Leonard Muriuki, with 33.3% popularity. Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Duncan Mbui is in third place with 20%. While his party enjoys the highest preference at 43.3% across the constituency, Mbui has struggled to translate this into personal support. This gap between party strength and candidate performance underscores the challenges DCP faces in converting its broad base into actual votes. Josiah Thiriku and undecided voters each accounted for 3.3%, highlighting how the race remains largely concentrated among the three leading contenders.
It seems DCP has stepped down for DP. But DCP candidate Duncan Mbui is furious and is going independent.Party politics, especially in by-elections reveals alot about party leaders. It seems Gachagua has failed the first test. A DCP candidate quitting and saying DCP is a party of thugs means a lot!
I wouldn't step down if I was RiggyG - fight tooth and nail. Clearly he has the troops.

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has assured party members that the selection of candidates for the 2027 general elections will be transparent and based purely on merit.
Taking to X, after speaking at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Gachagua said the party will not favour any aspirant over another.
“I assured them that our party remains truly democratic and transparent, and we have no preference for any candidates whatsoever. Every aspirant will be given an equal opportunity based on merit, commitment, and the will of the people,” he said.
The DCP leader addressed over 200 aspirants who are eyeing party tickets, praising them for their dedication during the membership drive and for promoting the party’s philosophy with integrity. He emphasised that the party is committed to a fair and inclusive process that prioritises the wishes of the people.

Kindiki needs to do all miracle to win this or he is gone
