That should sort us in western kenya and rift valley infrastructure wise.
It will also exceed whatever Uhuru and Kibaki did.
Financing seems nailed for both - without debt.
China tolling.
Let hope the American led consortium will do Mombasa to Nairobi expressway.
It should then be easy job to extend Marua to Nyeri to Nanyuki to Isiolo.
That should nail good legacy for first 5yrs.

Visit to China this month to iron it
-
My question is, how do you extend the SGR to Malaba without accumulating debt as you claimed?

PPP. Both road and rail chinese will invest together with middle east guys their money and toll it.

PPP is the new road to corruption in Kenya.
To be honest it started during Uhuru's time with the Expressway built in Nairobi. Any way, whatever is built in Kenya, someone somehow has to eat.

Well - yes - 10% has to be eaten - but PPP is best way out of our debt crisis- or building white elephants. At least here - a contractor see some viability

The Interstate Highway System in America opened the USA for an economic boom more than anything. Wish we could have dual intercountry highways in Africa, and an economic boom will be felt in under 5 years. With railways to accompany roads and one passport one ID, we would beat China, Europe, and America in a very short time. Africa landlockedness, tribalism, and self-hate from white supremacy suppressing Kenya and Africa from bolting like lightning rod!
-
Exactly - African gov should contribute to infrastructure fund - to build Inter Country highway system - AU should spearhead - and these road should be tolled.

If he can nail this then great for him as he has really nothing to show. He desperately needs to show something
That aside those.kinds of developments have chain ripple effect and open up.new opportunities for wananchi that really trickles down.to peoples pockets.

Remains to be seen whether Kung Fu interests in Afrika are still on with a focus on Trump trade wars. Ruto has to contend with the instability question, which made ufool miss the deal after the handchieth —Dejavu payback.
Yues cares less for mwafrika except for terror, and minerals in Satta Afrika/DRC and oil in Niger delta.

I thought Mbadi was in China trying to renegotiate terms for old loans. Kenya is on the verge of loan default.

Before loan default is reached, you will see all the distress signs like in Uhuru's error. No fuel, shilling to dollars skyrocketing, no money in circulation, etc., nothing moving, etc. Kenya right now is stable if you want to do business, work, or have capital. Kenyans bought more cars in the last 2 years than at any time in Kenya's history. Those upper- to middle-class in Kenya have so much money, but those at the bottom are struggling. Kenya is a capitalistic country, and those with money, brains, and work ethics continue to accumulate while poor people are slowly fading into poverty. I don't think Kenya will default with grown-ups now in charge! Immense Prosperity is about 2-5 years away from sweeping Kenya. Look at spending and leisure. When Kenyans are spending, it means chunk of people have money!
Kenyans almost doubled their smartphones purchases in the three months to December, acquiring 4.1 million smart devices compared with 2.2 million bought in the preceding quarter, as demand for access to digital services escalates

Ruto was scoring majors with Xi before he went to serenade in the White House.

The project lists are from bots. Sijui opaque deals/agreements, most of which we never get to follow up or stall after due diligence exposes the corruption and deceit.
His statement on X is silent on SGR.

Our problem is here, greed, corruption, short sightedness and general stupidity…a Vietnamese can tell you what we have been saying, you do not build a country with speeches and promises, it takes grit, hardwork and functional institutions.. https://x.com/anuarsaddat/status/1915444027572289899?s=46&t=3-3-_ehcZbukDCK7hNe5LA

Ruto told Kenyans during his 2022 presidential campaigns, the days of flying to Chian to collect loans were over. Today he is in China collecting madeni kama njungu.

In a country like Kenya, where most civil servants, politicians, wanainchi, and average taxpayers are thieves, it is difficult to build the country and wealth without external help. In fact, many countries have developed by taking on significant debt. Kenya and Africa are among the countries with a low GDP-to-debt ratio. I think cutting corruption and taking Kenya to Singapore's or the USA's level of GDP-to-debt ratio would be ideal, but African banks and Capital may need to start their own banking system so they don't rely on predatory global banks that charge high interest and issue crippling credit scores discriminately to weaken them. Massive but well-managed debt is the only way to fully industrialize; that is why the west and most rich countries are where they are. The USA is currently sitting at 40+ trillion and mostly Chinese debt. USA is developing yet more corrupt than Kenya, so there is no reason Kenya not to make strides
-
Truth be said Kasongo has pulled a fast one that has left world stunned, he suscesfully played China and USA for now, he is a winner shows he still has sparks of brilliance even though he lost 70% thinking capacity
If all the deals are completed then Ruto has a lifeline.

Agreed. It's not easy place to do business.

Nairobi river commission with 50,000 affordable houses;
Mombasa-Nairobi expressway next year.
AHP houses - not yet there.
Merus - naona Nithi bridge.
British let hope build 500,000 acre irrigation scheme in Tharaka Nithi with 1,000MW hydro.
That will be enough land to lift many poor Merus in drier parts from poverty
Mwea irrigation is 50,000 - including new extension - this will be 10 times bigger.
I dont know if Ruto will extend Marua to Nanyuki to Makutano to Isiolo -> as 2 lane - he should.
What else will Meru-Embu need?

Indications are that no deals were concluded. Just MoUs with insane demands. Makes one wonder what we have been operating on since Kibaki days. What are these MoUs?

The MOU also seeks to guide the planning and subsequent advancement and development of railway infrastructure to cover locomotives, rolling stock and railway operational management as part of the multimodal transport;
Framework Agreement on Economic Partnership for shared Development which constitutes a collaboration on sustainable development of the manufacturing industry, agricultural transformation and improving Kenya’s competitiveness in the global market. The agreement will guide the facilitation of trade, inclusive growth, coordination of supply chain and the digital economy.
Memorandum of Understanding on Blue Economy, Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Cooperation whose objective is to enhance cooperation in Blue Economy, Fisheries, and Marine Affairs;
Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technological Cooperation;
Cooperation Plan on Jointly promoting the Belt and Road initiative where both countries are willing to strengthen practical cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, trade and investment, digital economy, finance, education and talent cultivation, cultural tourism and people-people-people exchanges.
Protocol on Quarantine and Hygiene Requirements for Edible Aquatic Animals to be Exported from Kenya to China, meant to establish an effective food hygiene and safety management.
Cooperation Agreement between Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation and Xinhua News Agency of the People’s Republic of China on News Exchange with the objective of enhancing exchange and cooperation in the field of news dissemination;
Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Capacity Development between the Kenya School of Government and National Administration Academy
Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Implementation of the 2025 Human Resource Development Cooperation Plan.
Memorandum of Understanding on Vocational Education Cooperation.

The bonoko experts were in a hurry to sign for 10% they forgot where 30% will come from.
Kenya is seeking a reversal of the proposal that demands it raises 30 per cent of the Sh581.6 billion ($4.5 billion) required to extend SGR to Malaba, a hurdle that could delay the mega project amid a cash crunch in government.
National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi says Kenya is pushing for a funding model where the full funding will come from the Chinese.
At 30 per cent, Kenya was expected to raise Sh174 billion — an obstacle in a setting where the country revenues are consumed by debt repayments and salaries, leaving little for infrastructure projects.
Mashida ya kujiletea.
Expenditure pressures from the recent signing of collective bargain agreements with trade unions and the rollout of a new education system and the universal health care has meant that the country would struggle to fund development projects running into the hundreds of billions of shillings.

I thought agreement was to securitize RDL - :) to raise that 30% - but if they get Etihad railway to do PPP fine

The RDL is already committed to maintaining the NBI-MSA SGR and MGR and was planning critical last-mile connections to key customers.
The opaque SGR contract has made KR the most leveraged, technically insolvent parastatal. Bet Exim Bank and all potential financiers are asking hard questions and dragging their feet.

My thinking was we get 5yr grace period - takes us to 2030 - when other loan lapses (2032)
Yes - so GOK must have to get Etihad do PPP the last bit.
For now - they should concentrate on Kisumu line.
