Nairobi, Kenya: Joseph Nkaissery on Tuesday went to Langata Road Primary school and apologised for the teargassing of the pupils. Nkaissery confirmed that the piece of land in question belongs to the school and promised to revert it back to the institution The Cabinet Secretary ordered the private developer to collect his material from the site withing 24 hours. The pupils were demonstrating on Monday after a private developer took over a part of the school’s land which was used as a playing ground.
The demonstrations dubbed #OccupyPlayground saw anti-riot police lob tear gas canisters at the pupils injuring three of them. Langata OCPD Elijah Mwangi was suspended following the incident and investigations are underway.
