Title: Ruto needs to Turn to Russia to manage Kenya Fuel Prices
Post by: Nowayhaha on October 15, 2023, 06:51:40 AM
His administration is too focused on underhand deals from Saudi/UAE and India .
He needs to change focus to Russia . Thats his solution . Fix that or face consequences come 2027.
Can see he is travelling to China hopefully he comes back with some good news.
Play the balancing act like Kibaki and Kenya can thrive support West 100% and we are back to Mois era ( even worse)

Why did he do away with the public bidding? Each company would gives its fuel price landing cost at mombasa port.

There is no difference between russian and saudi oil price, the problem is that rutos companies are the brokers who are overpricing the landing cost at mombasa port & then overtaxing.

To confirm this,Check the fuel price from russia & saudi at their main ports before exports,FOB.Its the same but when the kenyan broker comes in,its overpriced.

LASTLY,The price of crude oil is the same as 10 years ago,What changed?

Some jokes. Name one country in Africa importing Russia Oil cheaply. India refiners will import Russia bulk oil and sell it to us expensively. There is no other way

OTC was not working as OMC were struggling to find forex to buy fuel. Under such times critical supplis like fuel, food and medicine need to be prioritized. The deal with Saudi and UAE is brilliant. It assures us of supply. Our fuel is not expensive - it near similar to what obtains in Tanzania or Mozambique or South Africa.

In the first quarter of 2022, Tunisia imported just 2,700 b/d of Russian products, but that rose to 66,300 b/d in Q1 of this year, according to S&P Global Commodities at Sea data, while Nigeria—Africa's biggest oil producer and most populous nation—saw imports rise almost five-fold year on year to 57,400 b/d in Q1 2023.

Morocco, Libya, and Egypt have also recorded huge rises in Russian imports. "[Lavrov's] flurry of diplomatic activity makes it abundantly clear. These steps are about Russia seeking alternative routes for their commodity exports," Kulakhmetov added. "Therefore, North African states are playing a significant role for Russia in mitigating implications of oil and oil product ban."

Doesnt look like serious volumes. Kenya is at maybe 150,000 barrels per day. Saudi and UAE deal is the best for now. Russia oil is wild card.

Russia can bring their wheat and fertilizers - we will be happy to trade on that.

Russia netted $18.8 billion from oil exports last month, making September the most profitable month since July 2022, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in its monthly oil market report.

According to the Paris-based agency, the country’s oil export revenues surged by $1.8 billion in one month. The agency estimates that gains from crude exports grew more strongly, by some $1.5 billion, than profits from the shipment of petroleum products.

The IEA attributed the spike in revenues to a combination of growth in total export volumes and higher average prices for Russian crude and oil products. The agency’s estimates showed that the country’s total oil exports surged by an average of 460,000 barrels per day (bpd) month-on-month, with crude accounting for 250,000 bpd of the increase. Russia’s total oil exports in September reportedly amounted to 7.6 million bpd. Meanwhile, the average price for Russian crude on the market rose by roughly $8 per barrel from August.

The agency noted that China and India remained the largest buyers of Russian oil last month. The two countries have shared this title since early this year, when Moscow was forced to redirect oil shipments to Asian markets amid Western sanctions and a price cap on Russian crude.

The IEA’s estimates of Russian exports come as a surprise, as the country has been intent on cutting oil output and deliveries. Moscow first voluntarily reduced its output in March this year by 500,000 bpd, saying this cut would last until the end of 2024. In August, it added a 500,000 bpd cut to crude exports which will last until the end of the year; this was later eased to 300,000 bpd. Earlier this month, Russia reiterated its intention to stick to the cuts.

Saudi Arabia, Russia’s OPEC+ ally and the globe’s largest oil exporter, also announced on October 4 that it would continue to cut its crude output by 1 million bpd until January 2024.

The combined move by the two oil heavyweights saw the global benchmark Brent oil futures surging to roughly $95 per barrel in September from the year’s lows of around $72 in March. Prices were also affected by the escalation of hostilities between Palestinian militant group Hamas, which controls much of Gaza, and the Israeli Defense Forces. The renewed conflict has ignited fears that the existing oil supply deficit could be exacerbated, but the IEA said in its report that there has been no direct impact on supplies so far.

Hopefully Ruto have a sit down with Putin for a tete a tete during his trip in China .
We need pragmatism in foreign affairs approach to benefit from each and every side

So Putin has been reduced to the level of just another leader like Ruto? Seems Putin is very desperate to get world attention. The man should take the chance now the world is looking at Gaza Strip to either overrun Ukraine and dine soon in Kyiv. Or if that is too much for him, he should use the chance to make a hasty retreat back to the borders of 2014.

They stopped exporting refined oil. They only export crude. Now there is exchange controls to try to keep the ship afloat.
