The prices of cooking oil has dropped because KNTC job was to put pressure on the fake cooking oil syndicate that imported refined fuel.
Role of KNTC is to fix prices without use of subsidies.
The cooking oil cartels have paid Jaindi Kisero from get go to disparage this.

Why would the edible oil marketers cry wolf if KNTC has only 8 depots? They would be happier to repackage the oil from KNTC. What price pressure yet the prices been falling before landing probably due to demand as broke Kenyans go for cheaper alternatives?

Next we need to deal with cooking oil cartels - they gov should ensure they declare the so called crude oil - as finished product - and they get treated as it is.

But Kenyatta-Raia crooks of Menegai and Pwani Oil - those are ones who were benefitting. You've seen how Menegai has grown so fast.

Last year it was definitely terrible - but how much is this link to global market? But let all agree we have no local cooking oil industry - we have importers - pretending to be manufacturers.
Gok and private industry need to come up with policies to ensure at least 50% of cooking oil from manufacturer come from farmers - or you're just an importer.

Every time you hear that phrase "government to government", never believe it. It is a decoy for looting. It was first used by Uhuru to push the SGR through after many people doubted its value for the country. Note, the Kenya government does not sign directly any of these deals.
Pundit will argue the price of edible oil has been brought down, yes but at what expense. Flood any commodity in the market and the price will go down for the consumer, but the general public will loose like in this case where the commodity is imported duty free and sold at market prices to the state organ.

The international price of palm oil (cooking oil) has fallen from $1700 may 2022 to $800 today...That means if we factor currency depreciation and the goverment intervention through single sourcing,the cooking oil shouldnt cost more than Kes 150 per litre if there was tax exemption and cheapest sourcing from asian markets.
