Learnt what?
As far as Ruto goes - SGR was great idea he pushed in Jubilee 1.0 - but Uhuru captured and messed it up.
Nobody was supposed to be forced to use SGR.
SGR was to add competition to trucks - not forcefully supplant trucks and take over Mombasa port.
If SGR is not competitive - fix the problems - and they are mostly last miles issues and congestion at Nairobi ICD.
Kenya Railways can easily fix those by providing total logistic support - not drop cargo in ICD - but final destination like trucks
They can rehabilitate the railway lines in industrial area for final last mile delivery.
Railway dev levy is still being collected - 1.5% of all imports - that is a lot of money- to finance this railway for posterity

Kenya has to finish SGR because the sunk cost of 1.5B dollars to naivasha is waste - huge waste. 150B kshs plus interest.
Nairobi-MSA is competitive without using force...KR just need to solve last mile issues intelligently.
Naivasha doesnt make much sense until we get it to Kampala - which next big city after Nairobi where cargo is destined to.
btw Naivasha to Kampala - we still have to do another 230km to kisumu; 120km to Malaba then 200km to Kampala; that for china man is easy; nearly same distance btw Nairobi to Mombasa - and can be nailed in 3yrs.

Murkomen and others I doubt are driving strategy.
Ndii, others and statehouse are the ones doing the thinking.

Murkomen job is to implement.

Ruto has to correct Uhuru mistakes - Chinese were ready to finance SGR then he went there with Raila and made huge mess of it.
Chinese asked for new feasibility study - because kenya were asking 50% grant.

Deal with your frustration in KQ without bringing Murkomen into it. Or worse me. You shared a link and said nothing. I was responding to the comments on the link.

What exactly is wrong with asking for loan period to be extended - and taking more loans - now that you got more breathing space?

This what Murkomen said.

"There was a strategic decision that was made at that time that we take to invest in the infrastructure and the government of Kenya pays within 15 to 20 years. Now we are choked with loans because we are paying $80 million per year to the lenders for the SGR," he said. "One thing we are willing to continue paying the amount that was set … we should be willing, led by the president, to renegotiate the loan period if we manage to move the loan period even to 50 years."

Murkomen released the contract;

We heard they will be problem in China because of confidentiality and other nonsense.

They are back talking to Chinese - and we can only wait until there is something concrete.

China have to understand they cannot abandon the railway in maize plantation in Narok and expect us to happily pay for it.
