Apart from ongoing graft case (which we know Kenyatta instigated on political grounds) - Waitutu is needed to clean Nairobi river. He understands Nairobi slums.

Two groups are killing our rivers - Slums sending raw sewer/garbage there - and industries.

If you ask me, Ruto's intelligence is overrated. The man has the gift of the gab, but makes very poor decisions. He has placed his government fully in the hands of politicians.

You have beaten me to posting this. Replace Uhuru cartels with his own. It is DP Rigati & Governor Kahiga who are putting brakes on Ruto's desire to have more Kalenjins in govt.

Nairobi River - Waitutu is only political appointee because slums will need someone like him

It is not politicians per see but just so happens the loyalists, those he owes happen to be mostly politicians. Those whose noise he needs to cover his "poor decisions".

Yes if rivers is passing an expensive structure or industrial zone or huge slum - diverting it into canal is a solution.

Perfect job for the perfect man. Baba yao understands kanairo. It is a shame for people who have been to all these world class cities where building sit right into the rivers to keep giving us romantic view of sewer like Nairobi River and the useless environment.

people have never understood baba yao when he said move rivers while mwarabu is reclaiming oceans.

A canal and a river are two different issues. A canal is man made while a river is part of nature. The canals and not rivers you mention in Amsterdam were built to fit the human needs. That is why Suez and Panama Canals are canals and not rivers. A canal can be built to sumplement a river or where there is not water connection, a canal can be built.

Rivers are not diverted to avoid buildings but the other way round, buildings are built to avoid rivers.

I was willing to give him a benefit of doubt, but clearly the benefit is fast disappearing. For someone who is aware of Kenya's needs, he is clearly recruiting gangs of looters instead of technocrats who know how to make and implement policy.

Ruto is destined to fail as president. He will do a lot of PR but he is making the big mistake of appointing known crooks to position of power. Kenya will pay a dear price for this man's presidency.
