jiggers infest retards. the county health workers will deal with this menace
 they should just put this family in a home for special needs kids

And they are everywhere in Kenya(and Africa).  Not just Gatundu.  Heard they were not in Africa until after some ship offloaded them from Brazil.

It started when africans left smearing their houses with cow urine and dung...maasai dont have it. The best solution is to tap kiambu cow urine and dung and spray them in every muddy household.

correct Ugandans do this and they have no fleas problem

Someone should bottle cow urine/cowdung - and put some perfume to smell nice - sell it as anti-flea pesticide.

Interesting.  What about outside their houses?  I thought that is where people tend to catch them.

Ultimately it's a poverty problem.  If you caught a jigger, you will probably deal with it right away.

I have heard of neem and coconut oil combination working.  They are shocking yet it seems like they are fairly easy to deal with.

the other thing that works is making sure all the dust near the house is suppressed by keeping the grounds wet. we used to be asked to bring water while in nursery school to keep the floors wet and prevent jigger fleas from breeding in the dusty floors. simple hygiene and animal husbandry is all that is required. however most families afflicted by jiggers are usually of special needs mentally challenged people. Hawa watu hukuwa Wana upunguvu ya hakili resulting in poor hyiegene making it easier for jigger mites to breed in their filthy environment. we need robust social services and health inspectors to be able to identify such families and provide intervention
