Title: Raila did not lose the presidential election, he gave it away
Post by: High Roller on September 14, 2022, 10:14:04 AM
For Azimio, the failure to elicit excitement in Luo Nyanza and Coast regions began before election day and it cost Raila the presidency. During the primaries ODM installed party stalwarts as candidates, passing over up and comers. They locked out potential leaders who could have transformed the party and excited the vote base by issuing nomination certificate to puppets and corruption lords. Raila received 501,954 votes in the six coastal counties, unlike 801,355 votes in 2017. A vote deficit of 300,000. In Luo Nyanza he received 1,230,348 votes, unlike 1,482,032 votes in 2017. A vote deficit of 250,000.

A total of 550,000 votes that would have catapulted him to the pinnacle of power.

I think you can say the same about Kenya Kwanza. They excited their base but had no get-out-the-vote plan to ensure their voters turned up to vote as they should. In mlima, western, and RV, about 800K low-hanging voters should have voted, so it is okay to say Ruto did not win narrowly; he simply gave it away.

I will look at it this way. Handshake politics removed the Mojo people had in Politics. Bottomline politics of deceit eventually came to haunt Raila after disenfrachisizing Kenyan voters.
Partly the reason most Azimio supporters dont want anything to do with handshake this time around.
