Title: Why did Kidero CHOOSE to be the guest of honour at Homa Bay?

Why are they even pitted against each other by the media?

Kidero clearly has some cheek; Raila on the other hand should read the signs on the wall and step aside. Raila political sunset is upon us.

Completely weak even in Luo Nyanza. 2yrs ago...this kind of opposition would be unheard of. The enigma is now exposed for an old fickle failed politician he is. Raila like Moi will soon be wondering what hell hit him.

Raila only hope know is to become a kingmaker...this time to build a stooge in Wetangula or someone of that type.

Well this is cue for me to increase my investment in MauVille.

Kidero have every right to run for president just like any other Kenyan.  The only problem is that Kidero is considered a mole by the same people he wants to lead. How about he prove himself first as a governor then run on his record? Currently Kidero spends more time in Nyanza than Nairobi where he's the governor.
If Kidero also believes in development of Nyanza, why can't he support devolution of resources as opposed to Harambees?

Kidero is new to politics. Just because he gets a fancy new title doesn't mean there's roots to it. Look at Tuju, he once had a fancy title higher than Uhuru.

What I don't understand is, what is Kidero doing in Homabay instead of Nairobi where his governorship is? Kidero to me seemed like an ideal candidate for the post Raila era, he has Nairobi governorship in his pocket but has been unable to implement any tangible development projects. I look around and I see nothing. Nairobi-ans were considered the more educated and less tribal of all the counties, but he has been unable to establish footing in there. Kidero may as well say goodbye to politics after his term ends.

Raila on the other hand despite being in his sunset years, continues to commander huge crowds and even shake up the current government quiet abit. We need him in the opposition as long as he lives. I don't think he will ever be president, his best shot was 2013 and the bungled that as well. He can however still be kingmaker and if I was Kidero, that is someone I would have wanted on my side not against me. Kidero has along way to go.

Kidero, for whatever reason, seems to now think that he got elected on his own steam and not because of his party's endorsement; and he is getting carried away.   The reality is that the only thing he has going for him is a lot of money that he acquired in unknown ways; as far as charisma, ideas, the ability to follow-through on anything ... he has as much to recommend him as does a mud brick.

As for Raila, whether he can usefully stay in politics remains to be seen.   His party started the year in self-implosion mode and has then managed the seemingly-impossible and gone downhill from there.    What will remain after 2014 is unclear.   In terms of "Luo leadership", it's hard to see which of the weak-kneed individuals around can fill his shoes; but for every throne there has to be a pretender.

"Kingmaker" has been mentioned a couple of times on this thread. RV Pundit, for example, suggested Wetangula; that would be an excellent choice if the idea is to dull the nation into sleep. Kalonzo is also out: his reputation as a fake and a flake is such that he cannot get very far.    I would rather see Raila  form new alliances with "outsiders"---people like Peter Kenneth---and others who are not "mainstream" at that level.

Here’s the low down on Kidero:
By ‘Super Blogger’

Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero is shifting political base to South Nyanza, a source close to the governor has revealed. Dr. Kidero knows that defending his Nairobi seat will be a tall order, a herculean task. He must scheme and he is scheming. The forces against him in Nairobi are unstoppable and for Kidero to have a legacy, he must be unbeatable.

“He is shifting base, this you can take to the bank” the source told this writer. “But we have no bank,” I jokingly responded. The rest of our discussion is unnecessary for now.

Unknown to many people, Gov. Kidero had set out to vie in Homa Bay County. However, a meeting with Gem elders, his home turf, saw his plans fizzle after they asked him ‘where have you been all along’. And Luo elders (leave alone the commercial and titled ones like Otondi etc) can be very brutal with the truth.

Governor Kidero, a high flying corporate sector magnet, a man many credit with the rise of Mumias Sugar as an industrial power of western Kenya, and Kenya as a whole (before ukwala, tuskys, nakumatt, naivas sugar etc came to be) was unknown outside the corporate sector boardrooms and annual gala dinners of top captains of industry performers.

Nairobi, however, knew him because he lived here, and made ‘news’ as an important corporate sector player. Most of the sugar he produced in Mumias were also ‘drunk’ here – in milked tea, water or coffee. In Nairobi, again, it would be easy to ‘market’ him, for people in the city ‘respect’ those who create jobs for them – and Kidero had created – so they said, thousands of jobs. So he came to Nairobi. There were others like him, say Jimnah Mbaru, and the political race got easily framed: between politicians and technocrats.

Politicians lost.

One and a half years later, Nairobi seems to be ready again for the politicians they threw out. This feeling is partly because of the high hopes the ‘technocrats’ had given the people as they campaigned. Under Kidero, the man who turned around Mumias, Nairobi would be turned around. It would be a middle income city flowing with milk and honey. It would be a better city, and folks would live better lives.

It is not I to judge Dr. Kidero. Nairobi is a difficult city to manage. It is pretentiously cosmopolitan. It is also the capital of ethnicity in Kenya. It is a city of the 10 billionaires and millions of beggars. It is no respecter of persons.

Dr. Kidero nurses presidential ambition. To succeed. He is better off with a solid ethnic bloc. He has deeply tainted his corporate sector credentials because of his inability to ‘turn around’ Nairobi. Some of the bottlenecks are not his own creation. With a good PR and a great message, he can get to Homa Bay and argue his case to the Luos. And if they – Luos of South Nyanza – have business for him, he can easily win. And yes, he is several times better than the current ruler there – one Cyprian Awiti.

In fact, if you are keen, some of the MPs who coalesce around him come from South Nyanza, meaning Kidero’s game, if on, is truly on….

Now you know.

If he's serious about the public sector, mind you he's definitely not leadership material, very inexperienced, he may consider grinding and advocating local policies in Homa Bay (-if the facts in that article are true, although i highly doubt because Homa Bay political wrangles and Kidero is pretty farfetched). Even if he garnered a region, he has A LOT of grassroots catching up to do, Nairobi governer works against it. He's better off staying corporate when he gets the boot because local folks don't vote for people like him. It's definitely not something ODM would endorse, he doesn't fit the local politician image. He should consider joining FORD-K, Wiper or UDF for a good 5 years advocating grassroots initatives before asking for votes.

Yes Raila will regain some political relevance if he recast himself as kingmaker. His PORK bid is over. He can remain political relevant by helping gobble anti-UhuRuto coalition. To beat Uhuru he'll need to cobble a bigger coalition than him. And there in lies the problem...he'll have to win Kambas,Luhyas and Luo...and looking at that coalition now..Kambas are going to be hardest to herd without Kalonzo. Therefore Kalonzo might be CORD answer to a credible candidate against Uhuru.

It’s not only “Luo leadership” but a reasonable opposition. Any government especially those in African countries need opposition to keep them in check. As far as CORD goes, I don’t see any potential for leadership coming up, I am not sure if that was intentional on Raila’s part (not groom future leaders)or not. Any good leader who has foresight should be able to think past his tenure. That hasn’t happened and if today Raila resigns from politic, there will remain a vacuum that isn’t easy to fill. Neither Wetangula, nor Kalonzo fit the bill.

Alliances with the likes of Peter Kenneth could have only been possible if they were truly independent. After the last election, I don’t think he is, when push comes to shove, he is likely to join the Mt Kenya crowd.

Kidero is nothing more than a Jubilee mole.  Raila is no saint.  But it is a stretch to even suggest Mumias Sugar Kidero is an alternative to Raila.

He has always been pro-government.  Dalmas stands for whoever is in power.  He was banking on Raila delivering the goodies.  He was bound to feel uneasy being in the opposition.  The man is cut from the KANU baba, KANU mama cloth.
