lawyer has moved to court seeking to overturn the nomination of Roots Party leader Prof George Wajackoyah as a presidential candidate.
In a petition before the Constitutional and Human Rights Division of the High Court in Nairobi, Benard Okello Odero wants Wajackoyah disqualified from contesting for the position of President in next month’s elections citing his state of mind.
“Your petitioner humbly pray for… a declaration that the 1st respondent (Prof George Wajackoyah) is mentally unfit to hold public office,” he told the court
He said Wajackoyah should have been subjected to a compulsory mental test before being cleared to vie in the August 9, 2022 elections. And he wants the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission found culpable of abdicating its duty to ascertain the mental soundness of candidates seeking the country’s topmost political office.
