So determined was Uhuru to name a Kikuyu to the post of TSC Chairman that he tried it twice. And twice Parliament rejected it. The difference between Dr. Nzomo and the Kikuyu Uhuru wished to see as Chair was huge. Nzomo had out performed all other candidates.
Some believe GEMA went to the drawing board that resulted in the KAA interviews having a GEMA member of the interview panel granting 100% score to a GEMA candidate and 0 to none GEMA candidates. The matter is before the High Court.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Dr Lydia Nzomo to be the chairperson of the Teachers Service Commission.
The President forwarded the nomination of the former director of Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
The Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi informed the House about the President’s message and the proposal to the House Committee on Education, Research and Technology for consideration.
The Speaker has asked the committee to report back to the House on its decision on or before November 13.
Twice, the National Assembly has rejected President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nomination of another candidate for the position, Mr Kiragu wa Magochi as chairperson of the commission.
LACK OF MERIT
The President had initially picked Mr Magochi for the position of chairperson and forwarded his name to Parliament for vetting, but members rejected his list based on arguments of lack of merit.
Section 8 of the Teachers Service Commission Act 2012 requires the National Assembly to either approve or reject the nominee to the position within 21 days.
The committee will sit and conduct hearings on the proposal before submitting a report to the plenary sitting of the Assembly for approval.
The Speaker asked the committee to notify the nominee and the general public of the time and place of the public hearings in good time.
The committee should do so by Thursday, according to the Speaker’s communication.

What happened to the tribal balance in public appointments? Why should it be GEMA only?

They flushed it down the same toilet they sent Chapter Six which now allows us to be governed by two indicted suspects. They twisted the logic. So rather than pin Chapter Six to individual probity and rectitude, they turned it to legalistic mumbo jumbo. The idea was for a person to carefully weigh the implications of holding office under a cloud of suspicion.
Uhuru Kenyatta is now a defender of the "innocent until proven 'guilty'" mantra. He is not content with smearing Kenya's image - a fact he recently acknowledged when he left another suspect in charge of the country so as not to besmirch the country by attending the trial as "President". He now wants senior civil servants who are under suspicion of criminal activity to continue working. We have sunk to the lowest point in our cesspool.
