Uhuru has called for an end to illegal unilateral sanctions against Zimbabwe, today. Strong terms, those.
We should extract this type of concession from the US+Friends in exchange for votes at the UN. Read Biden is busy trying to sweet-talk former pariah states like Iran and Venezuela to help them contain Russia. China was adamant when the Russian sanctions started that they do not and will never support illegal unilateral, sanctions. We don't have oil but we got votes, which is important in the PR game! Lets use them.

Its a matter of time , U.S. so desperate . They have already agreed to remove Iran Sanctions which have already affected relations with Saudia and U.A.E.
They are also sweet talking Venezuela . Back at home Americans are suffering with very high prices of gasoline. Which will cost Democrats in midterm and in 2 years G.E.

What is the strategic goal? How much leverage does Africa have? South Africa screwed Zimbabwe
-
Zim can only be saved by Zimbabweans themselves. Get rid of that military regime. Same way they got rid of Ian Smith.

Anyone, able left Zimbabwe only the poor and oligarchs are left

Mugabe like his mum warned his friends was a cruel beast. He went down with the ship

Weuweh, Kadudu. Save themselves from sanctions they never inflicted on themselves? Sanctions held in place by other powers?
Nobody can operate in this world cut off from trade and finance and magically do well. Even powerful countries are brought to their knees with sanctions and yet you expect Zimbabweans to somehow cope: How? Moreover, sanctions hurt people, not those in government, which is why so many human rights people are against them. Cue Iran.
C'mon, saying it's all up to these people in a thread about getting illegal sanctions lifted is basically saying these people should be punished by the world on top of the punishment they get from their military overloads: Why? For the crime of being dominated. That's rather elitist and privileged.

Zim also shot themselves in the foot. Chasing the most productive part of their population away. I am thinking even if sanctions are lifted, their economy would still be a mess. That aside, yes Africans should be a bit more strategic. And that starts with the realization of just how hopeless we are as separate tiny poor countries and trying to function more as a unit.

Policies make a great country, not politicians.
SA had Zuma who fked the country real bad.
Remember Elon Musk is South African emigre.

Zimbabwe's economy was sabotaged by the west due to Bob's controversial Land reforms. It's never possible to to have a 1000 point inflation index. Even Somalia without a functional government for close to 20 yrs didn't have this type of hyper-inflation

Zim leaders actions baffle me, it is as if they have collectively undergone an oath to ruin that country and make its citizens lives miserable. Shocking incompetence and malevolence. Ian Smith's prophecy about black leadership coming to fruition.
I support Mami's call on Western sanctions though.

We have had many Selfish leaders like Trump. Mobutu, Moi, Ethiopia's current, etc.
Such people are little Gods who only advanced their goals and failed to come up with national policies.
Kenya has been on the right (with ups and downs) track since Kibaki. Elect Ruto and its back to square one.

Tribalist. You dont get to define selfish.

I have had very good interractions with Zimbabweans for years. My problem is they always believed Mugabe and his mafia, had the best of interests for Zimbabweans at heart, even when all signs showed the opposite. Only in the last 10 years of Mugabe's rule did their eyes open, but it was then too late.
Sanctions should be lifted against Zimbabwe, but that current ruling elite is politically bankrupted. Here only Zimbabweans can help themselves.

Brits sank Zim as message to South Africa and likes of Kenya never to mess with colonial arrangments.
Dont blame the victim.

Of course the Brits are also at fault, but blaming only them alone is being naive. It is as if Mugabe and his clan played no role. Mugabe and the people around him enriched themselves with the farms they confiscated from the White Zimbabweans. The army generals co-own gold mines with Chinese companies, leaving very little for government revenue. Even if the sanctions are lifted today, Zimbabwe is hell on earth.

In the long run once mwafrika has land he will be sorted. Land remains the most prized factor of production otherwise mzungu would have let go off Kenya and Satta Afrika land given his advancements.
The current US juvenile sanctions tantrums and Europe indecisiveness due to oil and gas from Russia, shows how these sanctions have no interests in saving humanity but are costly dick measuring contests.
China may lift Zimbabwe/Mwafrika out of misery just like it is offering a checkmate for Russia.
The hypocritical West has started wailing about Chinese mining interests in Zimbabwe. This is because it impedes land reclamation by settlers. The nyeuthi elites will hold more dearly to the reclaimed lands/mines and teh West do not want that. They want to keep shouting how nyeuthi cannot use land.

The Chinese are also demanding an end to illegal sanctions against Afghanistan!
African govts + AU should follow Uhuru's lead and start singing the song "Free Zimbabwe!" till Bazungu cease their anti-ZIM sanctions.

I agree they blundered. But those sanctions are knee-capping. They don't even have Somalia's shot as long as they're in place. That govt will change, sooner or later, but the people are the only ones paying for sanctions.
And absolutely, strategic unity on international stage is the only muscle we have. Uhuru used it for his personal reasons before, seriously wounding ICC. They should surely do it for a genuine cause like this one, affecting the entire population of ZIM and neighboring countries. Poor ZIMs in SA are an important contributing factor to their occasional xenophobic erruptions.
