I think that is the most sensible strategy the western world should have adopted. This would knocked the ability of covud to mutate down. Now it seems like we are in a infinite loop of mutations and waves. Asia specifically China has the right approach.
The west is always afraid of economic damage and act irrationally. The science is that no herd immunity can stop Sars var virus it is only be elimination that we can stop this pandemic. I will post the science research behind this once I get time

Probably because the world is a huge and diverse place. So they can import food and stockpile other necessities like Avocado from countries that cannot afford locked down.
Has anyone actually gone to china to verify their lockdowns? You know they have many many empty cities where they could just stage a film for the rest of the world to follow as they demise...
