Thanks to my folks whom I didn't realise had donated thousands to science research behind my back, they've been invited to a reception, a somewhat flashy invite for a tertiary institution and the dress code is "cocktail" of course they're not going because they get invited to dozens of these a year for donating to this and that charity totalling millions. So I'm going instead. The thought of wearing a "cocktail" dress at school where I studied seems hmm... weird.
-
We have to wear name tags... I'm going to be alone in a dress with a name tag... maybe I should find a date.
-
Veritas, I am rather poor at girl talk, but I will give it a go. What is your body type?
-
Are you going to lend me a dress? :D I have plenty of cocktail dresses and shoes collecting dust. Oh gosh I should check if I fit them! I'm a size 10 now.. are you size 10?
-

I go up and down, between 8 and 12 (I was 14 last year! :o) Now I am slighlt smaller than 10 but not quite 8. But I am a short gal, so 10/8 doesn't mean "slender", still rather thick. :D
No, I asked about your body type so I could help you pick a dress! :D There are like 12 different shapes, which one are you? Hour glass, pear, bell, column, apple etc?
-
I think I'm pear or hour glass. I think we have the same shape. :D I fluctuate between 8-10.
Yes, yes. Please help me pick a dress! I have lots of black dresses.. the only color one I have is this black tartan dress.. what color should I wear?
-
I'm pear. I look sort of like this without clothes.

Colour? I guess depends on your complexion, skin tone and what effect you'd like to have.
If you are hour glass, you'll look good in anything you wear as long as it's not frumpy. If you are a pear, a flowing dress that cuts right under the boobs would be good, don't hug the hips/bum too tight! :D
-
I was thinking of the word "frumpy" and you mentioned it. You're reading my mind. Stop!
-
I do all this already.. http://m.wikihow.com/Dress-if-You've-Got-a-Pear-Shaped-Figure
What's your shape? Let me guess... Pear ! :D

I am a pear but not quite. I do have boobs. :D So the pear tips work for me only to a point. Most women are pears of sorts, but the classical pear shape is tiny boobs, long waist, wide hips.
-
I guess I'm in-between pear and hourglass, I have boobs. You and I could be twins ! :)
What kind of dresses do you wear? I might just buy a new dress...
-
Look these are on sale.. I should buy a cheapish dress for a school "cocktail" party. I think my current dresses are waaaayyy to hottish for tertiary events..

Which would you wear?
Maybe something plain like this, jazz it up with fake jewellrey.

I'm not much of a dress girl, but when I wear them, I prefer them to be flowing but not tight. That way, they show your curves but with class. For a cocktail, I would go with something really simple, though I haven't been to a fancy dinner in aaaages! :D I like short straight skirts (not too short) and boots, my goodness, I'm a boots junkie! I wish it was winter all the time so I could wear boots 247. :D I like green, blue, gold for my clothes.
-
Boots? Straight skirts? You sound like a rectangle, skinny grunge type. . possibly goth or nerd. I don't wear boots or straight skirts or else my butt will bulge. I wear heels and flowing garments. Most likely be a flowing dress so I can comfortably eat a lot.
-
Sooo cute! :D But I'm not sure it'd work for a cocktail

This is elegant, makes you look rather serious though.

What do think of this leopard print? It's on sale, cheap and I have strappy heels to match it..

Oh gawd no ? Is that granny's nightgown? That material is undergarment worn during WWII.

Lol! Gal, I cant be skinny if I tried. :D Thick, from my belly button down to my feet, that's how it goes. I just love boots, and they look best with skirts coz then you show some leg! :zen:
-
Those two were the first I noticed and went.. ewwww. It would look grunge on a skinny tallish chic though.. I couldn't pull that off with my figure. I'd seriously look like grandma wearing make up. Mental patient.

Well its certainly cute! It says you're young, you're fun, out to enjoy yourself. It's a bit too short for me, though.
-
Boots scare me. I have tiny feet, I couldn't lift the weight. You don't wear boots with cocktail dresses... looks bad.
-
Kabebi... you seriously need to go out more often... your dress taste is what a granny or a child would wear. No offense.
-
I wore a dress like that when I was 5years old..
-

Don't wear boots with cocktail dresses, no. I though you asked m what I liked to wear, not what I wear to cocktails. For fancy dinners, like I said, flowing body hugging dresses that don't hug my goods too tight! :D
-
I think I'll buy this. It's cheap and tertiary looking..but not too student.
Kabebi, flowing long dresses don't work on me. My parts jut out.
-

Lol! Plenty women wear boots around me, there's nothing grannyish/childish about them. And only cheap boots are heavy! :D I think the white dress is very cute, if you have skinny legs. I'd wear such a dress very proudly, but my legs wont let me. And its a bit short. The long pants work on a curvy girl just fine, if not better. It's tight where it needs to be (chest) and flowing from the waist down, it's just like a simple flowing dress but cut in pants instead. :D
-
You sound like you have no idea. Chics wear boots to be comfortable, same goes for undergarments. Not for fashion. Chics around me don't wear boots (unless they're students but they don't count because they're students).
I know my body. I think you need to figure out what works and doesn't work for your body. For instance, a white dress is a no, no. Not for my complexion or yours. It may work if you're blonde and tall.
Long pants generally don't fit me unless custom fit. I have too much butt. Leggings are the safer alternative.
Not easy at all shopping for pears...
I think I like this..

Ok, I've decided. I'm liking this.. also it's dirt cheap.

It dis-accentuates my curves.. and I can wear thick black stone necklace, strappy black heels, bright red lipstick, heavy eye make up like fake lashes, no need to syle my hair, bedroom hair will do.

Comfort and fashion are not opposed. :D The undergarments had better be both sexy and cormfy. Women are not the same. I love boots, and there are extremely fashionable boots out there, maybe the women around you are different from those around me.
You are completely wrong about colour. Colour is flattering or not based on your skin undertone. Cool undertoned chicks will look very good in white, black, silver and other cool colours no matter what colour their outer skin is, they have this fresh, clean look to them. And warm undertoned chicks will not look flattering at all in those colours however white they are. They are better off with warm colours, the yellows, browns, gold sorts. Its all about the undertone. Once you start dressing with that instead of assuming based on the superficial top skin, you will notice an immediate effect, not just you but everyone around you. Colour is very important and there is no colour for a specific race, but there is colour for specific tones that affect how the skin glows, or looks in certain light or against the contrast of a certain colour. :D

It's cute! Though i'm confused, thought you said you don't like white???
-
.... I think you need to hang with real chics, chics who dress like chics. Not sure who your circle of girlfriends are but... hmm.. concerning. Googling undertone etc. doesn't work in real life. It's a nice concept but not proven. I've had chats about that with my girlfriends many a times before, not true, we've tried, doesn't work. People suit 2 or 3 color types. E.g. some look good in pink, most don't.

It's black and white. That's different. I'm feeling zebra..

My ipad's running out of juice, I need to slumber. Thanks for the advise. :*

It certainly works, and the difference is immediately noticeable. Maybe you just didn't pick the right tone for you. You don't have to wear the same colours everyday, of course, but it certainly helps to know what colours suit you best instead of assuming. That way you don't dismiss whole races from wearing certain colours, like white for example, lol! Apparently only white blondes can wear white, you haven't seen Emmy Kosgei in a white dress, I bet :D). She looks amazing. I think, veri, you are overly dismissive, your girlfriends don't represent the style of women everywhere.
-
Lupita in white :D No white skin or blonde hair anywhere, and she's stunning! :D

Hehe kumbe kababe is ALL woman...

You're confusing white for beige. Lupita looks awful in it. Is she wearing a spacesuit? Disaster.

You wear boots.. no comment. Blue, green is your color... your fashion sense is way too manly/nerdy for my liking.
-
Well, to each his own. :D I don't know any man who dresses in the same colors and fabrics I wear, though. Hayo tu!

So you dress like this.

What not to wear... for pears.
What not to wear?
Skinny jeans (can be worn with some tunics or A line long tops)
Pencil or straight skirts
Very short skirts
Tops with narrow shoulder lines
Pleats and pants with a lot of detailing
Shoes and booties with ankle straps, too delicate footwear and kitten heels

Ladies, what's the occasion? I normally stick to pants and top coz I don't want to be bothered by dumb males but when I do dress up I have only one rule: tight and short hehehe, my award-winning thayos have to be seen from time to time.

usijali I don't engage in online gender bending like some folk. By all woman I mean curvy curvy. None of that size zero stuff we see in glossy magazines.
-
This seems to be the only interesting topic on the board today. I'll drop this here mix with your cocktales hehehe. Nice weekend guys, weather here is greying already. Not cute for a sato.
-
Kabebi that jumper is haut. Maroon. Okay let me get to gym already lol

Me too...the pants, that is. They are just easy and convenient. And I DONT like leggings. I will be a bootleg girl to the end. Brynn, you are the tall, modelling type, I bet you kill in those skirts. :D Which maroon jumper were you referring to?

Aaaah, I get. You are a hot-blooded African male, I see. I like my round self, hehe, though I have a problem when my weight goes out of control. I am no slave to trends, don't cae if they say size 0 is the meaning of beauty, to me, beauty is what is there when I look in the mirror! :D If someone else disagrees, they don't have to look. :zen:
