It seems the Chileans have decided to send Pinochet's model of politics and economics to his grave.
Pundit praised Pinochet but it seems the Chileans have other ideas and decided they have had enough of him.

I haven't studied Chilean politics. But from what I know about U.S. history in South America, I'm afraid this spells doom for them. The U.S. simply doesn't let Leftist govts alone in South America. It funds coups and militias and engages in economic warfare against them.

Once a country has developed - it can become socialist like your germany or the nordic countries.
I dont see any problem.
Pinochet did well to jail and exile the leftist - and brought Chicago boys to install capitalism.
Capitalism made Chile the 2nd developed country in South America after Argentina - a no mean feat
Now Chile problem is not poverty.
It's income inequality.
And now leftist can come and redistribute wealth

Indeed. America has a sordid history in its immediate sphere of influence. The US or the West enlightened as they claim to be, are just savage when it comes to dealing with the "global South".
